Al Jazira vs Real Madrid
Competition: FIFA Club World Cup
Date: 13 December 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
Historic days for Al Jazira, as they managed to celebrate two victories in a few days in their first participation in the FIFA Club World Cup. As predicted and suggested here, their game against Urawa Red Diamonds stayed under 2.5 goals, and Al Jazira’s double chance as well paid off. The – kind of – hosts not only didn’t lose, but they didn’t even need extra-time to beat the AFC Champions League title-holders, winning the game 1-0 in the 90 minutes. Regardless of the position they will occupy by the end of the tournament, the fact that they beat the Champions League winners of their confederation is already a huge deal for them. An even bigger deal is that they… set up an once in a lifetime (most probably) date with Real Madrid.
Zinedine Zidane keeps saying that his team will be at their best when it really matters (Champions League knockout stages, starting with PSG in February), but before that, there is a title at stake, in the UAE, and that badge they have been sporting on their jerseys for a year now, after winning the previous edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, they want to retain it, it means something in the… international football market (and not only). Just before flying to the UAE, Real Madrid thrashed Sevilla 5-0 at Santiago Bernabeu, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring two goals, after taking several pictures before kick-off, standing behind his five – as of last week – Golden Balls. The UEFA CL title-holders are not without injury problems, but their roster is such that… practically any absence, of any player, seems possible (if not easy) to be covered up and dealt with.

Al Jazira vs Real Madrid: Prediction
Real Madrid’s win pays close to zero (1.07), so… the number of goals can save the day.
Al Jazira vs Real Madrid: Betting Tips
The gap between this game and Real Madrid’s last LaLiga match is four days, during which the Merengues had to make a trip and get used to very different climatic conditions. Because of that, I like the chances of “under 3.5 combined goals”, at 2.10. Obviously I expect Real Madrid to win, but no more than 3-0. If they concede, I’ll be surprised.
