Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 26 April 2018
Kick-off: 21:05 CET
Many feel this should be the final of the competition, and not a semifinal. Arsenal and Atlético Madrid are indeed the two big names in the semis, but only one will make it to the final. This is Arsene Wenger’s chance to win one last title with the Gunners, as a few days ago he announced that he’ll be leaving the London club at the end of the season. Last weekend, Arsenal beat West Ham 4-1 at home, but are still 6th in the Premier League table, 11 whole points behind 4th-placed Tottenham. Winning the Europa League is the only way for them to play Champions League football next season. As for who is going to replace Wenger, that’s still unclear. Several names have been heard, but it feels that not even Arsenal’s officials have a clear picture of the characteristics the team’s new manager should have.
Atlético Madrid flew to London without vastly experienced right-back Juanfran, who got injured on Sunday in their game against Betis, and is expected to miss both legs, not just the first one in England. Diego Costa is not 100% fit, actually he is reported to be way lower than that percentage, but he did fly to London with the squad, so… only Diego Simeone knows how involved the Brazilian will be in the game. The Colchoneros drew 0-0 at home to the Seville side last weekend, but are still second, and will remain second even if Real Madrid win the game in hand they have. There is a four-point gap between them, with Atlético having four matches left. Croatian Sime Vrsaljko substituted Juanfran on Sunday, and is expected to start at Emirates.

The two teams are given rather even chances to win the game. Personally, I will be surprised if Atlético lose.
