Atletico Goianiense vs Sport Recife
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 12 November 2017
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
They are at the bottom of the table since… ever, they have all little details as well going against them, so… you have to feel sorry for Atletico Goianiense, especially if you saw how they lost at Atletico Mineiro on Thursday. They took the lead twice in the first half hour(!), but detail number one, the referee gave Atletico Mineiro a rather harsh penalty, allowing them to equalize in the 18th minute. Detail number two (among several other), Fred tried to find a teammate in the 65th minute, the ball got deflected, net, 3-2. Truth is, Atletico Goianiense just lost heart after that goal, failing to create a single real chance in the last 30 minutes (added time included). They remain at the bottom of the table, 11 whole points behind Vitoria, the first team right above the relegation line. If they fail to pick up all three points in this match, their relegation could be unavoidable, even mathematically.
In the Sport vs Botafogo preview the other day I explained why I didn’t have any trust in the Recife side, backing their guests to get at least a draw, actually to win the game. Sport lost 2-1, with their goalkeeper, Magrão, committing a… hard to believe mistake in the 15th minute, practically gifting Botafogo their first goal of the game. Before Sport had enough time to… process what had happened, they found themselves 2-0 down. They did fight back, especially in the second half they visited Botafogo’s box half a dozen times, they even scored a goal with André in the 86th minute (his 13th in 30 appearances this season), but all in all they were second best on the pitch, and it’s very characteristic that in the last 10 minutes, added time included, they failed to create one real chance to equalize. That, despite playing at home and having – sort of – the momentum on their side, after their 86th-minute goal. Sport fell below the relegation line, and are currently two points behind Vitoria, the first team right above the relegation zone.

Atletico Goianiense vs Sport Recife: Head to head Stats
Atletico haven’t hosted Sport since 2013. They won that (Serie B) match 2-1. A year earlier, they had lost 1-0.
Atletico Goianiense vs Sport Recife: Prediction
The two worst performing teams of the Serie A in these last weeks (and in Atletico Goianiense’s case, throughout the season), are facing each other. I’m not taking sides, I prefer to go with goals instead.
Atletico Goianiense vs Sport Recife: Betting Tips
I do expect goals, at least three, coming from both sides. “Both teams” to score is at 1.70 betting odds. “Over 2.5 goals” pays 2.00, and combined with “both teams to score” it goes up to 2.20. A much more conservative approach would be to go with Atletico’s double chance, at 1.50.
