Atromitos vs AEK Athens
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 26 February 2018
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Atromitos’ double chance (1.60) and their victory in “draw no bet” (2.25) were my two tips last week when the Peristeri side visited Asteras Tripolis, and they delivered, as they won the game 1-0. Truth is, they were a bit lucky to leave Tripoli with all three points. A draw would, most probably, be a more fair result. Atromitos, again, had several good moments offensively, but Asteras deserved a goal as well, I reckon. Midweek, Amr Warda, probably Atromitos’ best player, playing for them on loan from PAOK, was at the centre of a weird case. He got ambushed by people who are believed to be “fans” of anther team, most probably Olympiakos (at least this is what the Egyptian thinks). They didn’t really hit him, but he was definitely shaken, “in shock”, as a teammate called it. He obviously got scared that things could turn ugly. Things in Greece can get rough, often it’s the fans of a team that get rough on their own players (when things are not going well), but ambushing players of other clubs is almost unheard of.
It’s rather… ironic. It was draws that gave AEK Athens the qualification for the last 32 of the Europa League, as they had five(!) of those (and a win) in their group. They drew twice to Dynamo Kiev as well, but they are out of the competition, because of that goal Dynamo scored in Athens. AEK did well in Kiev midweek, but failed to score, with Iranian Masoud missing the biggest chances. He was really “down” at training on Friday, the day after the game, and coach Jimenez took the time to praise his team for the way they played in Ukraine, and totally back Masoud, who really seemed he needed some words of… consolation/encouragement. Last weekend, AEK were awesome against Xanthi, leading 4-0 at halftime(!), with unbelievable Ognjen Vranjes scoring a hat-trick (the Bosnian defender had one goal in the Super League this season before last weekend). They remain second in the table, two points behind leaders PAOK.

Atromitos vs AEK Athens: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Atromitos, one for AEK, and a draw, in the last five games between these two with Atromitos as hosts. One of those five matches had two goals, and the other four had just one each.
Atromitos vs AEK Athens: Prediction
AEK are considered clear favourites to win the game, but personally I’m backing Atromitos to earn at least a draw.
Atromitos vs AEK Athens: Betting Tips
Atromitos’ double chance is at 1.66 betting odds. “Both teams to score”, at 2.20, pays much better, and saves you from worrying about winners and losers. Deep down I expect a 1-1 draw.
