Bahia vs Botafogo
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 10 June 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Something over 24 hours before kick-off, interim coach Cláudio Prates still didn’t know if he’d be leading the team from the bench in this game against Botafogo. Bahia are (were?) in search of a new coach after Guto Ferreira’s departure from the club. Midweek, in Curitiba, they lost 1-0 to Paraná, getting stuck below the relegation line. They are on eight points from 10 games, and having scored just six goals, their position in the table feels rather… “deserved”. They have now lost three games in a row. Things are definitely much-much better at home, though. They’ve earned all their eight points as hosts, losing only to Gremio, earlier this month.
After beating Vasco da Gama 2-1 away from home last weekend, midweek’s result versus Ceará, that 0-0 draw, was a major letdown for Botafogo. They failed to score past the weakest (based on results) team of the league, a team that had just three points before visiting Botafogo a few days ago. Center-back Yago got a knock on the head, and had to spend 24 hours doing nothing. Thankfully for him and the club, his situation improved a lot, and very fast. He actually trained properly on Saturday, and according to reports he should be in the starting lineup. Gatito Fernández, their regular goalkeeper who has been out due to injury for some time now, started training with the ball, his hand looks ok, but is not expected to play until after the World Cup finals. Botafogo are on 13 points from 10 matches, having won just one of their last five.

Bahia vs Botafogo: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Bahia, one for Botafogo, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Salvador.
Bahia vs Botafogo: Prediction
At home, Bahia are a very different team. They are considered favorites to beat Botafogo, but I simply don’t trust them. I will be very surprised if they lose, though.
Bahia vs Botafogo: Betting Tips
As previously mentioned, I don’t trust Bahia enough to suggest a straightforward win of theirs, but their double chance is at just 1.22. “No” on “both teams to score” is a bet I like, at 1.75. In Bahia’s last five home games, only once there were goals from both sides. If I risked with Bahia’s win, I would combine it with a clean sheet. At 2.87, the risk would be worth it.
