Botafogo vs Nacional Montevideo
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 11 August 2017
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
If you watched Botafogo’s game at Nacional Montevideo a month ago, either the whole match or just the highlights, you must be wondering ‘how did this game end 1-0 for Botafogo?’ Well, it did, despite the fact that Nacional had incredible chances to score, while the Brazilian side had pretty much… a chance and a half in the entire match. They did the most out of them, they scored in the first half, somehow protected that lead until the final whistle, so here they are now, playing at home, a month later, having one thing in common with the Botafogo that traveled to Uruguay; back then, they had lost their previous three games, looking very-very bad. This time they have two – home! – defeats and a draw (at Cruzeiro, last weekend) in their last three games, again looking way below average. This didn’t stop them from getting an awesome result in Montevideo though, so… football works in miraculous ways…
Nacional Montevideo were in awesome form before hosting Botafogo five weeks ago, they went on to win two more consecutive games in Uruguay’s championship after that, and no one can blame them for not producing chances to beat Botafogo as well. They definitely lacked the… killer instinct they had shown in other games though, and of course a little bit of luck, if such thing exists, especially in football, where the ball goes where you send it, it’s not the ball’s fault if you can’t score in front of a practically empty goal (which is what happened to Nacional at least three times in that first leg at home). Nacional’s last official match was more than three weeks ago. Ever since then, they’ve played only friendly games, losing to Boca Juniors on penalties (after a 1-1 draw), and beating another Argentinian side, Banfield, 3-2, last Friday.
Botafogo vs Nacional Montevideo: Head to head Stats
Botafogo have hosted Nacional just once before, in the distant 1973. They beat them 3-2, as well as 2-1 in Montevideo a few days later, and of course 1-0 this year, a month ago.
Botafogo vs Nacional Montevideo: Prediction
It’s always tricky guessing how a team will do after going for almost a month without an official match, which is Nacional’s case. Botafogo are considered clear favorites to win, and almost certain to qualify, but I’m going against the odds, and I’m backing Nacional to earn at least a draw.
Botafogo vs Nacional Montevideo: Tips
‘Draw or Nacional’ pays 1.95, more than Botafogo’s win (1.85), and I like it mostly because the hosts have looked incredibly unreliable in all but one of their last six games.
