Ceara vs Palmeiras
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 10 June 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Ceará’s goalless draw at Botafogo midweek was the first game of coach Lisca in charge. After the match, he said the team can do much better, giving a taste of how demanding he is. Drawing with Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro is anything but a bad result, but Ceará’s position in the table is so dire that they need to… outdo themselves in the remainder of the season. They remain at the bottom, on just four points, the only team without a win. Actually, it’s been two months now since their last victory, something that definitely creates a… mental block to any team. The point they earned in Rio midweek wasn’t the only positive; the overall feeling was that Ceará’s players looked much more… motivated, much more “active”, while in most of their previous games they had looked not exactly… indifferent, but definitely lacked spark.
Four days after beating Sao Paulo at home (3-1), bouncing back from consecutive negative results, Palmeiras took it a… step further, beating Gremio 2-0 in Porto Alegre(!). Gremio are – according to betting companies – one of the top four favorites to win the Série A title, so when you A) beat such a rival, B) away from home, C) by two goals, D) keeping a clean sheet, you have every reason to feel enthusiastic. Willian scored both Palmeiras goals in Porto Alegre, and he has actually scored four of their last five, as he netted twice against Sao Paulo as well. Four goals, in four days. They are on 17 points, having the second best goal difference (+7) in the league. Only leaders Flamengo have done better thus far (+12).

Ceara vs Palmeiras: Head to head Stats
Ceará haven’t hosted Palmeiras since 2013. That Série B game ended in a 2-2 draw. Two years earlier, Ceará had won 2-0 at home (Série A).
Ceara vs Palmeiras: Prediction
Palmeiras have already lost twice away from home in the Série A, but it was at Corinthians and Cruzeiro, two teams whose level is… day and night, compared to that of Ceará. I’m backing the Sao Paulo side to leave Fortaleza with all three points.
Ceara vs Palmeiras: Betting Tips
Palmeiras are considered clear favorites to win, their victory pays 1.75, pushing their double chance down to 1.20. Ceará haven’t scored in four of their five home games thus far, so for more than 1.75, I would risk with Palmeiras’ win combined with a clean sheet. Like that, it pays a much better 2.60.
