Cracovia Krakow vs Wisla Krakow
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 13 December 2017
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
Massive game in Krakow, the only city in Poland to have two teams in the Ekstraklasa, with their stadiums not further away than a few, very few, hundreds of meters. Cracovia lost 1-0 at Lech Poznan last weekend, having two goals disallowed in the first half. The first one, only after the referee saw on a screen what had happened (Piatek had… climbed over a Lech defender). The second one was an obvious offside. Generally, Cracovia didn’t manage to create a lot, and paid for a mistake made by their goalkeeper, who should have reacted better to Dilaver’s header in the 38th minute. Even so, taking into consideration how badly the season started for them, before finally shaping up the last month, in other words, putting their performance in Poznan into context, it was a decent one, against one of the strongest teams in the country.
It was impressive seeing so many Wisla Krakow players perform that badly on Sunday against Wisla Plock. Basha, Victor Perez, Jesus Imaz, Wojtkowski, not to mention the three substitutes, the guys who were sent in between the 59th and the 69th minute to shake things ups, and all they did was make matters worse for the hosts. Even Carlos Lopez was below par, the one guy Wisla Krakow usually turn to when everyone else is… absent. Actually, if it weren’t for former Leicester City defender Wasilewski and Julian Cuesta, their goalkeeper (he took Buchalik’s spot, as predicted here), Wisla Krakow would have conceded more. The latter had a couple of clumsy touches, but he did have two big saves as well, and zero responsibility in Wisla Plock’s goal late in the first half, the only one in the game. One point from their last three games has left Wisla Krakow 8th in the table, while up until a couple of weeks ago they were within striking distance from the top.
