Deportivo Santani vs Libertad
Competition: Paraguay Apertura
Date: 16 February 2018
Kick-off: 22:00 CET
Last weekend I expected Deportivo Santaní to lose at Sol de América and the game to have at least three goals. This way, Sol’s win was paying 2.50. Deportivo did lose, 3-2, in an absolutely crazy game. Héctor Sanabria left Santaní with 10 men just 11 minutes into the match committing an incredibly bad foul. He didn’t mean to hurt his opponent, he was just way too clumsy, leaving the referee with no choice but to show him a direct red card. Amazingly, six minutes later, Enrique Meza put Santaní ahead(!). Four minutes later, the score was at 2-1 for Sol(!!), and at that point it seemed that Santaní were doomed. Turned out, they weren’t; 31st minute, 2-2!! Santaní, playing with 10 men, let me remind you, persevered until the 75th minute. They finally succumbed, lost 3-2, but… looking back, they must feel very well about the way they fought, wondering what would have happened if Sanabria hadn’t acted so careless early in the match.
Libertad’s win over Guaraní last weekend was at 2.30, good, I thought, keeping in mind that Libertad desperately needed to play a good game after disappointing on their debut (despite drawing 2-2 in added time at Sportivo Luqueño), and that Guaraní were going to play with several reserves, because of their upcoming game against Junior in the Copa Libertadores. Libertad did win, 2-0, a rather… deceiving score though. Guaraní deserved at least a goal, having created a good number of chances despite playing with 10 men since the 32nd minute. Libertad were more clinical in their finishes, no one can say they didn’t deserve to win, but this 2-0 creates the illusion that they… dominated, which was not exactly the case. Bottom line, they won, they picked up all three points, they are on four, undefeated after the first two matches of the season, but (yes, there is a “but”), once again, they seemed vulnerable defensively, despite not conceding. To have any real chance in the Apertura, let alone in their Copa Libertadores group, they need to improve vastly, defensively.

Deportivo Santani vs Libertad: Head to head Stats
Deportivo Santaní haven’t hosted Libertad since 2015. Libertad won that game 2-0. Earlier that year, the two teams had drawn 1-1 with Santaní as hosts.
Deportivo Santani vs Libertad: Prediction
Libertad are considered huge favourites to win the game, but I like what I’ve seen so far from Santaní, they beat 3 de Febrero at home, did very well last weekend at Sol de América, so… knowing this is a major risk, I’m actually backing them to earn at least a draw against this unreliable defensively Libertad.
Deportivo Santani vs Libertad: Betting Tips
Santaní’s double chance pays an awesome (for a double chance) 2.25, and I’m staying with that.
