Deportivo Tachira vs Macara
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 27 January 2018
Kick-off: 01:15 CET
Deportivo Táchira must be thankful to the first assistant referee of their first leg against Macará, last week, for doing an absolutely fantastic job in the Venezuelan team’s goal. First, he could have gotten fooled by a slight touch of the ball by a Macará defender, thinking that it was a Deportivo player who had touched it. This, would have set Pérez Greco offside. He wasn’t, and the assistant got it right. Then, Táchira’s player sent the ball in, but barely, as it first hit the horizontal post, then the ground, but not clearly inside. Again, the assistant made the right decision, even though it took him a couple of seconds. Turns out, he was right. The ball had crossed the line, two massive refereeing decisions in a matter of two seconds, both correct, leading to a goal that has made Deportivo favourites, after a first leg in which they were kind of lucky to escape undefeated. That was Deportivo’s first official match since late October. Last year they got eliminated from the Copa Libertadores in this very same qualifying round.
What a chance Copa Libertadores newbies Macará lost to win the first leg, and travel to Venezuela as favourites to qualify… They were the better team during most of the game, took the lead in the first half, had chances to make it 2-0, and conceded a… weird (but totally valid) goal in the 69th minute, depriving them of a massive victory. They had never played in the Copa Libertadores before, the very fact that they are taking part in the qualifiers is a huge thing for them, for the fans, for the city (Ambato, in Ecuador), but… especially after the first leg, they saw they have what it takes to deal with Deportivo Táchira, despite the fact that their opponents have a… bigger name and history in the competition. Last weekend’s game was the first official for Macará since mid December.

Deportivo Tachira vs Macara: Head to head Stats
The two teams had never met before last Monday’s game in Ecuador.
Deportivo Tachira vs Macara: Prediction
All three hosts in the return legs of this qualifying round are considered favourites to win, but Deportivo less than the other two. For good reason, as they were not really convincing on Monday, in Ecuador.
Deportivo Tachira vs Macara: Betting Tips
Despite Macará’s very good performance at home on Monday, I feel that Deportivo have the experience, the fan base, the history and the… heavy jersey (compared to that of Macará) to win the game and qualify for the next round. They don’t need to win, a simple goalless draw would be enough for them, but I do expect them to win. Their victory pays 2.20, and I consider it good enough to avoid risking further with special bets.
