General Diaz vs Independiente CG
Competition: Paraguay Apertura
Date: 17 February 2018
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
General Díaz visited Olimpia on Monday, my suggestion was “Olimpia and over 2.5 goals”, at 2.50, and General Díaz lost 3-1, a score that could have been way heavier. Their goal came from the penalty spot (1-1), after a Cuero “gift” (the penalty he committed). That was practically the only time they visited Olimpia’s box in the entire 90 minutes. They conceded three, and given how many chances Olimpia had, the “Eagles” were rather lucky to leave “Para Uno” with that 3-1, and not a much more embarrassing result. It’s… easy to criticize General Díaz after such a poor performance, especially keeping in mind that they had managed just a draw against Deportivo Capiatá a week earlier, but… especially last Monday, they were playing against a super motivated Olimpia (they had just gotten eliminated from the Copa Libertadores and needed to bounce back), so… even a better General Díaz would have had a very tough afternoon at “Para Uno”. Do keep in mind that the “Eagles” are playing in Ecuador on Tuesday, against Barcelona, a Copa Sudamericana match, whatever that means about their lineup against Independiente Campo Grande.
Independiente were… a joy to watch last weekend at home against Nacional, scoring four goals, creating chances for more, and generally dominating on the field, against an opponent who had just beaten no other than reigning champions Cerro Porteño. They triumphed 4-0, but ironically, they could lose those points because of fielding Augusto Ruiz Díaz. Teams in Paraguay are obliged to have an U19 player in their starting lineup, but he needs to be Paraguayan. Ruiz Díaz (who had a good game against Nacional) is born in Buenos Aires, he has a paper issued by the Paraguayan FA showing that his nationality is Paraguayan, but it’s not that clear, Nacional filed an official complaint, the matter is being looked into by the Association, and Inde could lose those three points they so deservedly won on the pitch.

General Diaz vs Independiente CG: Head to head Stats
Last year, General Díaz beat Independiente Campo Grande 4-0 and 2-1 as hosts. Before that, they hadn’t hosted them since 2010.
General Diaz vs Independiente CG: Prediction
The hosts are expected to win the game, but I’m taking seriously the fact that they have a trip to Ecuador coming up. Plus, Inde looked… astonishing last weekend at home against Nacional. All things considered, I’m backing the underdogs, Independiente, to earn at least a draw.
General Diaz vs Independiente CG: Betting Tips
Inde’s double chance pays 1.62. Draw, at 3.26, feels definitely more probable than an Independiente win. “Over 2.5” goals pays 1.80 and saves you from worrying about winners and losers.
