Gloucester vs Sale Sharks
Competition: Aviva Premiership Rugby
Date: 15 April 2017
Kick-off: 16:00 CET
This fixture shapes up to be the dead rubber clash of the weekend. Both teams are safe from relegation but have no realistic chance of getting into the top four – so they are mainly looking to end the season with solid performances.
Gloucester will be far less interested in this clash than Sale, as they have their attention focused on their European Challenge Cup semi final against French heavyweights La Rochelle next weekend. It won’t be surprising to see the hosts rest all of their big name players for this weekend’s clash against Sale so that they can contend with French outfit who have a massive unbeaten streak.
With that being said, they will want to build some confidence ahead of that clash and a win over Sale will help a lot in that regard. Their forward pack needs to assert their dominance and make the most of home ground advantage.
Meanwhile Sale travel to Kingsholm off the back of a ten point win over Worcester. It isn’t much to write home about but it did put some breathing room between Sale and that side, as they are 10th and 11th on the log.
Depending on the make-up of Gloucester’s team this weekend, Sale could end up having the upper hand if the hosts decide to rest a lot of their players. They have to contest with a hostile crowd and they’ve only managed one win away from home this season so they aren’t exactly the favourites in this clash.
Gloucester vs Sale Sharks: Head-to-Head Stats
Their last ten matches have been pretty evenly matched and Gloucester have six while Sale have won four. Gloucester have the most recent run of wins, having beaten Sale in their most recent three outings.
Gloucester vs Sale Sharks: Prediction
While Gloucester may choose to rest some of their big players for next week’s Challenge Cup semi final, they will still be tough to beat at home. Sale have been poor this season and don’t really have the firepower to beat the hosts.
