Gornik Zabrze vs Jagiellonia Bialystok
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 24 November 2017
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
Gornik Zabrze’s game at Legia Warsaw last weekend was their 20th since the start of the season, and the first in which they failed to score(!). They did create some chances, but way-way less than normal, which definitely makes sense, since they were facing the most in-form team in the country, and, away from home. In full honesty, if their goalkeeper, Tomasz Loska, hadn’t put on a real show, mostly in the second half, Gornik would have conceded way earlier than in the 84th minute, which is when Kasper Hämäläinen scored the only goal of the match. Gornik did send the ball in, but the referee used the VAR system and saw that Angulo was offside in the buildup. Later on, the ref used the VAR system again to take back a penalty he had given to Legia. All in all, Gornik were second best on the pitch for most of the 90 minutes, and would have been kind of lucky to leave Warsaw with a point.
Just last week I was writing how Jagiellonia have won a good number of games in which they were not really the better team on the pitch, but truth is, I can remember at least three cases in which they were, by far, the better team, but still failed to win. Their game against Nieciecza last weekend is a characteristic example. Jagiellonia were not… Manchester City, they didn’t create a dozen chances, they didn’t dazzle anyone with their football, but they definitely deserved to win, they had chances enough to score a couple of goals, while Nieciecza had one “sort of” chance in the 78th minute. One. In 90 minutes. To see that game end 0-0, made you feel sorry for Jagiellonia (or not, given that it could be seen as… divine justice, for all the points they have earned this season without really-really deserving them). Despite looking unconvincing since the start of the season, they were 4th after the last game week, just four points behind leaders Legia Warsaw.

Gornik Zabrze vs Jagiellonia Bialystok: Prediction
Gornik just failed, for the first time this season, to score, but I seriously-seriously doubt this will get repeated against Jagiellonia. I’m backing them to win, scoring at least twice.
