Gremio vs America Mineiro
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 10 June 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
An unbeaten run of 10 games came to an end when Gremio lost 2-0 to Palmeiras midweek, at home. After the match, coach Renato Portaluppi told reporters that it feels everyone plays against his team as if it’s the World Cup final. He has a point; Gremio are the reigning Copa Libertadores champions, and the overall feeling is that if last season they hadn’t focused on that competition, they would have fought with Corinthians until the very last weekend for the Série A title. Having watched most Gremio games this season, I too feel that their rivals give their 101% when they play against them, but… it comes with the package. They can… whine about it, or they can take pride in it, seen by all their opponents as THE team to beat. Jael is back, his absence was really felt at Gremio in their last games, but according to reports, he’s not fit yet to start the game. Léo Moura is back as well, and should start. Marcelo Grohe, Léo Moura, Bressan, Kannemann, Bruno Cortez, Jailson (or Maicon), Arthur, Lima (or Ramiro), Luan, Everton and André should be Gremio’s starting 11.
América Mineiro lost 3-1 to city rivals Atlético midweek, but their coach, somehow, “saw” his team be “superior” to their opponents, despite the negative result. América have lost three of their last four games, losing ground in the table. They are on 13 points, having earned just one out of 12 possible away from home (2-2 at Ceará, a game they deserved to win, and didn’t only because of serious refereeing mistakes). A Brazilian newspaper pointed out something very interesting; América were doing great the first weeks of the season, when the schedule was lighter, and they played just once a week. Ever since the scheduled got thicker, with two games per week, they have picked up just three points, paying the price for not having a really deep roster.

Gremio vs America Mineiro: Prediction
Gremio have been just average (at best) for weeks now. There are two games left before the World Cup finals break, and they have run out of excuses. They simply MUST win this game, against a team that seems… almost unable of earning points away from home.
Gremio vs America Mineiro: Betting Tips
A simple Gremio win pays just 1.33. Incredibly, Gremio haven’t scored in four of their last five home games(!!), but against América I expect them to finally… release the Kraken(!), scoring at least three goals, pushing the game “over 2.5”. Combined with that, their victory pays 2.30. “Gremio to keep a clean sheet” is at 1.61.
