Internacional vs Corinthians
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 27 May 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
As of Thursday, Internacional have a new “executive director”, Rodrigo Caetano. Obviously it won’t have the slightest influence on this match, but it’s news at Inter, something that could shape their near future, as Caetano looks very ambitious, aiming at doing his best to push the Porto Alegre club back among the “protagonists” in Brazil’s football scene. Thursday had more news for Inter; right winger William Pottker can play against Corinthians, as his two-match ban for something that happened in the derby against Gremio was annulled. Andrés D’Alessandro is still out, both banned and injured. Last weekend, Inter beat Chapecoense 3-0 at home, their first victory in over a month. They are 10th in the Série A table, on eight points, with seven of those having been earned at home. Actually, in three games at Beira-Rio, they are still to concede a goal.
Corinthians tried and tried and tried, but nothing worked for them on Thursday, they lost 1-0 at home to Millonarios, in the Copa Libertadores, disappointing their fans. Not that it was a disaster; they still finished first in their group, level on points with Independiente (Avellaneda, Argentina), but having a better goal difference. It was Osmar Loss’ first game in charge after succeeding Fábio Carille, the coach who led Corinthians to the Série A title last season (and the Paulista championship title a month and a half ago). Loss promised to stay on the path of his predecessor, seeing no reason to… mess things up. Corinthians created chances, missed them all, and conceded in one of the few chances they allowed Millonarios. All in all, it wasn’t a particularly bad performance, and given that it didn’t cost them the first spot in the group table, it could actually be seen as a valuable lesson about things they need to work on. They are among the Série A leaders, on 11 points from six matches.

Internacional vs Corinthians: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Inter, two for Corinthians as well, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Porto Alegre.
Internacional vs Corinthians: Prediction
I’m backing the hosts to win the game. They have been very good at home since the start of the season, they’ve had a whole week to get ready for this massive game against the reigning Série A titleholders, and Corinthians had a very demanding game less than 72 hours earlier.
Internacional vs Corinthians: Betting Tips
Inter’s win pays 1.85. I expect a tight match, not more than two goals, but “under 2.5” pays just 1.47, which I consider not worth the risk, so I’m sticking to Inter’s win, at 2.05. Acting a bit greedy, I would go for “Inter and under 2.5 goals”, at 3.60.
