Lanus vs Chapecoense
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 18 May 2017
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
Lanus look like a striker who has been passed the ball at a position from where it’s almost impossible to miss. He could miss, anything can happen in football, but it would be a memorable miss, one that would be discussed for years. A win would be a fantastic result for the Argentine side, it would send them to the last 16 of the competition. A draw wouldn’t be awesome, but it wouldn’t be too bad either. A defeat, that, yes, would get the Argentines in serious trouble. Last weekend, Lanus lost 1-0 at Banfield, and are now sitting 11th in the table of their championship. In their last four games at home they have three wins (scoring a total of 11 goals) and a goalless draw against San Martin San Juan.
Chapecoense have been playing twice a week for a long time now, and before traveling to Corinthians last weekend they had three consecutive defeats. Their coach, Vagner Mancini, decided to rest four players, and the result was better than expected. Not only ‘Chape’ earned a draw at Corinthians on the first day of the new Brazilian championship, but they played well, and could have even won the game. Plus, four important players got rested, and Mancini implied that despite the importance of the match in Argentina, he is going to rotate some players again, realizing that some of them really-really need it. Chapecoense have four points, as many as Zulia, three less than Nacional and Lanus. They play the last game at home, they will be hosting Zulia, and obviously they still hope that they will be in the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores.
Lanus vs Chapecoense: Head-to-head Stats
Lanus beat Chapecoense 3-1 earlier this season, in the first game ever between these two teams.
Lanus vs Chapecoense: Prediction
Lanus have not conceded in their last three home games, they have three wins in the last four matches in front of their own fans, Chapecoense have lost four of their last six games on the road, it’s easy to predict a Lanus win, but… somehow, the way ‘Chape’ played at Corinthians once their coach decided to rest some regulars, makes me ‘suspect’ that they still have it in them to surprise us, and earn at least a draw at Lanus.
Lanus vs Chapecoense: Tips
‘Draw or Chapecoense’ is at 2.62. Lanus are definitely the favorites, it’s no wonder their win pays only 1.45, but I’m going with my hunch, and the feeling I was left with, watching ‘Chape’ against Corinthians just a few days ago.
