LDU Quito vs Fluminense
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 22 September 2017
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
LDU Quito have a more than decent home record, they have won six of their last eight home matches in all competitions, the other two games have ended in a draw, no defeats, but… realistically “speaking”, none of their opponents was even close to Fluminense’s level, even this Fluminense’s, who have had spectacular ups and downs since the start of the season. LDU’s 1-0 defeat in Rio de Janeiro a week ago wouldn’t be a too bad result under different circumstances, but the way they have been playing for weeks now, if not months, leaves me with little space to trust them to beat and eliminate Fluminense, despite their above-mentioned more than decent home record. Their game against Fuerza Amarilla last weekend got postponed, so they had a whole week to prepare for this return leg.
Fluminense have just one win in their last five matches (in three competitions), but it was in the most important game, possibly, the first leg against LDU Quito. For a team of Fluminense’s stature, winning the Copa Sudamericana won’t be a… historic success, winning the Copa Libertadores would be, the Sudamericana would be a simple… consolation prize for them, but they are in the last 16, they have won the first leg, they are very close to reaching the quarterfinals, and, important detail, this is the only title they can claim this season, having failed in Brazil’s championship (11th after 24 matches!) and in the Copa do Brasil as well. Last weekend they lost 3-1 at Atletico Paranaense, playing with several reserves, a sign that they take the game in Quito very seriously.

LDU have hosted Fluminense three times before, beating them twice and drawing once. Total goals, nine(!) for the hosts, three for the visitors.
LDU Quito vs Fluminense: Prediction
Despite their full of ups and downs season, despite their numerous disappointments for months now, I’m backing Fluminense to earn at least a draw in Quito, and obviously qualify for the quarterfinals.
LDU Quito vs Fluminense: Betting Tips
Fluminense’s double chance pays 1.95, which I prefer much better to the 1.75 LDU Quito’s win comes with.
