Libertad Asuncion vs Huracan
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 2 August 2017
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
Libertad were considered outsiders three weeks ago in Argentina, in the first leg, but I backed them to earn at least a draw. What they did, was beyond my expectations. They ridiculed Huracan 5-1, with Oscar Cardozo scoring twice in what was his debut at Libertad, having just returned home after many years in Europe. The new championship in Paraguay started ten days ago, Libertad got held to a surprise 0-0 draw at home to Rubio Ñú on the first day, but last weekend they turned their away game at Sportivo Luqueño into a… walk in the park, going 2-0 up before the 30th minute and 3-0 in the second half, before the hosts got one back thanks to a penalty. Regular goalkeeper Rodrigo Muñoz has injured his hand, and will stay sidelined for a whole month. Carlos Servín will take his place. According to reports in local media, Spanish coach Fernando Jubero will start the game with the two players who… hurt Huracan the most, Cardozo and Santiago Salcedo.
In the previous round of the Copa Sudamericana, Huracan stunned Deportivo Anzoategui, beating them 4-0 in Argentina in the return leg, having lost 3-0 in Venezuela(!). That miracle they performed though against Anzoategui, looks… piece of cake compared to what they need to do to kick Libertad out of the competition. Huracan’s target in this match is to save some face, avoid losing, so as to leave the competition with their head – relatively – high. Attacking midfielder Alejandro Romero, 22, Huracan’s second most… precious player (based on his market value at the moment), got sent-off in the first leg (in the 74th minute, when the score was already 0-4), and will obviously miss the return leg.
Libertad Asuncion vs Huracan: Head-to-head Stats
The game in Argentina three weeks ago was the first ever between these two teams.
Libertad Asuncion vs Huracan: Prediction
Despite the fact that Libertad don’t need to win, since they have already secured the ticket to the next round of the competition, I still expect them to beat Huracan, not only because they are a much better team, but also because they have their morale boosted, and two official matches under their belt the last ten days. Huracan haven’t played an official game since the first leg against Libertad.
Libertad Asuncion vs Huracan: Tips
Libertad’s win pays 1.61. For more than that, I’d risk with ‘Libertad and over 2.5 goals’, at 2.50.
