Marseille vs Braga
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 15 February 2018
Kick-off: 19:00 CET
A Saint-Étienne goal in the 75th minute on Friday cost Olympique Marseille two points and a spot in the table of the Ligue 1. Monaco won their game, so Marseille are now third, one point behind the reigning Ligue 1 champions. Actually, it was their second draw in their last three games, and they are a bit lucky to be third, as fourth-placed Lyon have been a disaster lately, losing three games in a row. Marseille qualified from the group stage despite winning only two matches. They lost at Salzburg and Vitoria Guimaraes, but still managed to be in the top-2. The most… memorable game was the one in Portugal. Actually, it was what happened before that match that made it memorable, when Patrice Evra felt he had had enough of verbal abuse by Marseille fans during warm-up, and karate-kicked one of them. Soon, Evra was put in the fridge, and recently he signed at West Ham.
It must feel… refreshing to Sporting Braga fans having the Europa League back, given that their fate in Portugal’s championship looks rather… decided. They are clearly behind the top-3, they are 10 whole points above 5th-placed Rio Ave, extraordinary things need to happen for them to finish anything else but 4th. The Europa League is a different case. It’s a competition Braga have made a name for themselves in, being relatively consistently successful for years now. It’s the competition they… get to dream, something very difficult in Portugal’s championship, with Porto, Benfica and Sporting bossing the league. Three wins and a draw in the group stage were enough to give them a ticket to the last 32, definitely a success, since they had some very tricky opponents in the bunch, and all four had a chance to qualify.

Marseille vs Braga: Head to head Stats
Olympique Marseille have hosted Sporting Braga once before, in 2015. It was a Europa League group stage game, which the French side won 1-0.
Marseille vs Braga: Prediction
Despite their ups and downs this season, Marseille have managed to maintain their home performances at a way above average level, earning some big results along the way. It’s their home achievements that make me feel they will win this game. Not necessarily qualify, but win this first leg.
Marseille vs Braga: Betting Tips
A simple Marseille win doesn’t pay more than 1.44. I see goals in this match, at least three, and, coming from both sides. “Both teams to score” is at 1.80 betting odds, and “Marseille to win and both teams to score” pays an awesome 3.10.
