Olimpia Asuncion vs Guarani
Competition: Paraguay Apertura
Date: 26 February 2018
Kick-off: 23:00 CET
Olimpia Asunción played their part last weekend in producing a… wild game of four goals, more than a dozen missed chances, and endless excitement. They were the only team with two wins in their first two Apertura matches before visiting Sportivo Luqueño last weekend, and given how those 90 minutes went, they should be satisfied with having earned a draw. Half an hour into the game, they were 2-0 down(!). Before halftime, it was 2-2(!!). No goals in the second half, but still, the ball kept going up and down, shots flying, huge missed chances, a really awesome game to watch. Mauricio Cuero, Olimpia’s right winger who missed last weekend’s game because he woke up with fever the morning of the match, is fine and expected to start the game. Coach Daniel Garnero said they will try to take control from the first minute, something that hasn’t happened in any of their games thus far this season, starting “so-so” in all, and slowly picking up rhythm.
Funny how football can be… Recently, at the very start of the season, Guaraní scored 12 goals in back-to-back matches, six and six, past Sol de América and Carabobo. Back then, practically everything they tried, worked. Last weekend, despite creating a dozen chances, they needed a blooper produced by Deportivo Capiatá’s goalkeeper to win the game 2-1. As for midweek, in that massive game against Junior from Barranquilla, Guaraní looked like a totally different team, nervous, without imagination, without ideas, predictable, struggling to create a real chance, struggling even to enter Junior’s box. Then again, they were playing against Junior, not… Deportivo Capiatá, or Carabobo, or Sol de América. Still, going from… more than 10 big chances per game, to practically none, the gap was… chaotic. Guaraní were left heartbroken on Thursday, they got eliminated from the Copa Libertadores, they won’t be facing Boca Juniors, Palmeiras and Alianza Lima in the group stage, which could turn out to be a good thing in the Apertura, less games, more focus on their domestic competition.

Olimpia Asuncion vs Guarani: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Olimpia and three for Guaraní in the last five games between these two with Olimpia as hosts. Two of those five matches had more than two goals.
Olimpia Asuncion vs Guarani: Prediction
Olimpia are considered relatively clear favourites to win the game. Guaraní played a very demanding match on Thursday, but had three days to recover. If the game was held on Sunday, it would be an issue, but on Monday, I feel tiredness won’t affect Guaraní. All things considered, I’m leaving winners and losers aside, I’m focusing on goals instead.
Olimpia Asuncion vs Guarani: Betting Tips
I definitely expect Olimpia to score, and I trust Guaraní to send the ball in at least once as well. “Both teams to score” pays 1.62, which I find decent. “Over 2.5 goals” pays somewhat better, 1.70, and I like it a lot. Pushing it a bit, I would risk with “over 3.5 goals”, at 2.70.
