Racing Club vs Libertad
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 1 November 2017
Kick-off: 23:15 CET
Poor game, disappointing performance, playing away from home, yes, but, with a big part of the stands at Defensores del Chaco occupied by their own fans who made the long trip all the way from Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, and other parts of Argentina. Racing Club were far below expectations last week in Asuncion, and even though they lost just 1-0, the really worrying part for them was that they got outsmarted by Libertad, they failed to take advantage of their opponents’ weaknesses, while Libertad made sure to do exactly that. Last weekend they lost 3-1 at Atletico Tucuman, with Cocca, their coach, making four changes to his starting lineup. They are on just eight points from seven matches in Argentina’s Superliga, sitting 20th(!) in the table.
“Pass the ball to Cardozo, he knows what to do”. This may have been the last thing Jubero, Libertad’s coach, told his players before sending them out to play against Racing Club last weekend. The veteran striker was impressive, not… scoring a bicycle-kick or outrunning anyone, but showing what a high football IQ he has, with the way he won every single high ball, how he put his body to protect the ball, how he passed it around. It was very characteristic, minutes after Libertad scored (Cardozo received the ball and passed it to Salcedo, the scorer), a Racing player was caught on camera “teaching” a teammate, the one who was responsible to guard Cardozo, what he was supposed to do, to win, finally, at least one battle against him. Last weekend they beat General Diaz 2-0 away from home, with Jubero making no less than 10(!) changes to his lineup, so as to have his regulars as “fresh” as possible in this return leg in Avellaneda. That was Libertad’s first win in the championship of Paraguay after four straight losses (and a draw). They are 9th(!) in the table.

Racing Club vs Libertad: Head to head Stats
The game in Asuncion last week was the first ever between these two.
Racing Club vs Libertad: Prediction
Racing are considered huge favorites to win the game, they obviously can, but after watching the first leg last week, and seeing how “blocked” and outsmarted they got, I have serious doubts they can beat Libertad. Plus, the Paraguayans got a good rest last weekend, playing with their reserves in the championship, while Racing’s coach chose to play with most of his regulars. All things considered, I’m backing Libertad to earn at least a draw, even though they still qualify if they lose 2-1 (3-2, etc).
Racing Club vs Libertad: Betting Tips
Libertad’s double chance pays 2.25, good enough to avoid risking further with special bets.
