San Lorenzo vs Lanus
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 14 September 2017
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
San Lorenzo almost shot their own foot in the round of 16 against Emelec. They beat them 1-0 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in the first leg, but in the return leg at home they found themselves 1-0 down early in the second half. Right after the hour mark Emelec were left with ten men, the tie was heading into extra time, San Lorenzo needed a goal, they were playing with an extra guy, but no, they failed to score, the tie went to penalties, and there, at least there, San Lorenzo got the job done. Ever since then, they got eliminated from Argentina’s Cup from… some Deportivo Moron (with all due respect), and picked up two points in their first two Superliga matches. Last weekend they drew 0-0 at Rosario Central, playing with their reserves, as the Copa Libertadores quarterfinal was obviously prioritized.
You just read how much San Lorenzo struggled to qualify for the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals. Lanus didn’t have a much easier job against The Strongest. They drew 1-1 in La Paz, the return leg in Argentina was at 0-0 until the 85th minute, and even after Lanus took the lead, The Strongest were just one goal away from making the tie to be decided after the 90 minutes. Lanus hold on to that 1-0, grabbing the ticket to the quarterfinals. Just like San Lorenzo, they got eliminated from Argentina’s Cup, and, worse than San Lorenzo, they started the new championship season with back-to-back defeats.

One win for San Lorenzo, one draw, and three wins for Lanus in the last five games between these two with San Lorenzo as hosts. Four of those five matches went over 2.5 goals (over 3.5 goals, actually).
San Lorenzo vs Lanus: Prediction
No disrespect meant to any of the two teams, but I honestly feel that both San Lorenzo and Lanus should feel flattered and lucky to have reached the quarterfinals. As for this first leg, I feel San Lorenzo have a slight advantage.
