Scarlets vs Edinburgh
Competition: Guinness Pro14
Date: 23 September 2017
Kick off: 20:35 CET
Both the Scarlets and Edinburgh suffered defeats at the weekend, however, they were both very different as the Scarletts fought bravely and the Scots capitulated.
It really was a surprising loss for Edinburgh as they fell to Trevio, at home as well, by three points. It is not often that Treviso wins games at all in the Pro 14, never mind on the road, which either shows they are looking good this season to impress, or that Edinburgh were really shocking. Edinburgh were undefeated before the game against the Italians as they had Cardiff Blues by 10 points and then they went on to take down the Dragons by 17 points. It was also an away win in Cardiff, so overall not bad results. Edinburgh perhaps were underestimating just how tough the Italians would be, thinking the game was won before it had even begun. They now have to try and bounce back, but will find it really hard against a wounded defending champion team.
The Scarlets were put to the test in their first loss of the season when they face Ulster in Ireland. It is an Ulster side that is looking good for a top position this year, and even as the defending champions, the Scarlets would have known it was always going to be a rough game. Ulster won by just the one converted try in the end, and showed their powers, but it was not a bad performance by the Scarlets, also having won the two games to begin the season with. The Scarlets however did falter when they faced their first true challenge as the games before this away one were at home to the Kings, who they smashed by 47 points, then away to Zebre, which they also managed to overcome easily, with a 31 point winning margin. The Scarlets will bracket Edinburgh as an easy side to beat, especially at home, but they cannot come unprepared and suffer the same way as the Scots did against the Italians in their game before.

Scarlets vs Edinburgh: Head to Head Stats
The Scarlets have the edge in this fixture after the last 10 games as they have won six of them, Edinburgh three and there has been a draw. However, in those 10 games four of them have been won by one point, making this usually a close encounter.
Scarlets vs Edinburgh: Prediction
The Scarlets have the mettle to again be a force in the Pro 14 this year, they may not go on to win it but when it comes to games like this one where they are at home, against a weakened opponent, they will not hesitate and should do well enough to release their classy backs for a big win.
