Sportivo Luqueno vs General Diaz
Competition: Paraguay Apertura
Date: 3 March 2018
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
Javier Sanguinetti is no longer Sportivo Luqueño’s coach. Someone had to pay for the team’s failure to pick up more than two points from their first four matches in the Apertura, and the Argentine coach was the easiest person to substitute. Eduardo Rivera was appointed in his place, a very experienced coach, who has already worked three times in the past at Sportivo Luqueño. They got massacred 4-1 at Independiente de Campo Grande last weekend, looking like super easy prey in the last 30 minutes. They were at 1-1, they even missed a glorious chance to take the lead early in the second half, but at the end, they collapsed, disappointing their fans who turned Inde’s stadium into Feliciano Cáceres (Luqueño’s stadium). The Luque side have already conceded 12 goals in four Apertura matches. “Both teams to score” and “over 2.5 goals and both teams to score” were my two tips last weekend. This game is held on Friday, because Sportivo Luqueño have a trip to Ecuador coming up, to face Deportivo Cuenca in the return leg of their Copa Sudamericana first round tie. They beat Cuenca 2-0 at home in the first leg.
General Díaz are one of the three teams that have just two points from their first four Apertura matches. What makes them look worse than 3 de Febrero and Sportivo Luqueño is that they have already played three games at home. All they managed was two draws, and not even against top teams. Last weekend they lost 2-1 to Nacional as hosts, playing with 10 men in the entire second half. Their goalkeeper, Diego Barreto, made an incredible mistake in the 27th minute gifting Nacional a goal, and Cristian Gaitán acted… I prefer not to describe it, seeing two yellow cards in the last 100 seconds of the first half. Even so, General Díaz managed to equalise in the 65th minute (Matías Espinoza’s free-kick was an absolute beauty). Still with 10 men, they couldn’t salvage a point, conceding again in the 79th minute. General Díaz have a huge game coming up, on Wednesday, against Barcelona from Guayaquil, in the Copa Sudamericana. They drew 0-0 in Ecuador in the first leg. The gap between the two matches is five whole days though, so the “Eagles” are expected to play with their best possible lineup.

Sportivo Luqueno vs General Diaz: Head to head Stats
Four wins for Sportivo Luqueño and a draw, in the last five games between these two with Luqueño as hosts. The last two matches went over 2.5 goals.
Sportivo Luqueno vs General Diaz: Prediction
I want to back Sportivo Luqueño to win, but I’m very troubled by how they have looked in the second half of almost all their games thus far this season, conceding one goal after another. Then again, they have a new coach, and usually it’s the defence that new coaches start working on. All things considered, I’m leaving winners and losers aside, I’m betting on goals instead.
Sportivo Luqueno vs General Diaz: Betting Tips
“Over 2.5 goals” feels very probable, looking at how Sportivo Luqueño’s games have gone these last weeks. At 1.95, that’s the only tip I feel comfortable giving on this game.
