Wisla Krakow vs Gornik Zabrze
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 3 December 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
In the tips section of the Nieciecza vs Wisla Krakow match preview last week, I started by… playing it safe, suggesting Wisla’s double chance, and their win in “draw no bet”. Before wrapping up the tips though, I did admit that draw felt very probable to me, making that 3,10 the riskiest of my three tips. Turned out, my gut feeling about not trusting Wisla to win the game (hence the “draw no bet” safety net) was right. The Krakow side took the lead three times, had chances to finish the game off, but… not for the first time this season, they did everything they could to leave the pitch with less points than what they should have earned. A silly Víctor Pérez penalty gave Nieciecza the chance to make it 1-1. Buchalik, Wisla’s keeper, saw the ball pass in between his legs in Nieciecza’s 2-2. Last, two minutes from time, three Wisla players, including former Leicester City defender Wasilewski, who made his debut, were caught almost napping, as Jovanović headed the ball in, to make it 3-3. Two points thrown to the garbage, two precious points, in a game that Wisla could and should have won. There are moments you think, “yes, they can go all the way, the others are not that much better than them”, but then, there are games in which Wisla look far from title contenders, looking incredibly sloppy.
Last weekend, I trusted Gornik Zabrze not just to beat Jagiellonia Bialystok at home, but to score enough to push the game over 2.5 goals (their simple win was paying 2.45, and the one combined with “over 2.5 goals” was at 3.70), and they… delivered, winning the game 3-1. Gornik went 1-0 down just four minutes into the match, and stayed there until late in the first half, looking second best on the pitch. Once Angulo made it 1-1 though, it was as if someone pushed a button, sucking all the energy out of Jagiellonia, and pumping extra energy into Gornik. The Zabrze team (playing in front of a sell-out crowd, as in practically every single home game this season, in the Ekstraklasa), needed a… crazy own-goal by Wlazło to take the lead in the 80th minute, before Angulo finished the game off with his 18th(!!) goal of the season, but all in all, there is no doubt Gornik deserved all three points, looking super dominant in the second half. That win pushed them back first in the table, and they stayed there, after Legia Warsaw’s defeat at Korona Kielce, a day later. Midweek, they beat Chojniczanka Chojnice 3-0 at home, earning a spot in the semifinals of Poland’s Cup, which are going to be played in spring.

Two wins for Wisla, one for Gornik, and two draws, in the last five games between these two in Krakow. Three of those five matches went over 2.5 goals.
Wisla Krakow vs Gornik Zabrze: Prediction
Same story, since the start of the season, same-same story, no matter if we have reached the 18th game week. Gornik were and continue to be seen by betting companies as the… newly-promoted side that should be glad to avoid getting embarrassed playing against an Ekstraklasa regular. Fine by me, extra fine, since I’m definitely backing Gornik to earn at least a draw, glad to see that Wisla are considered that strong favorites as for their win to be paying just over 2.00. I have been backing Gornik to get the results they wanted since the start of the season, usually combining “over 2.5 goals” as well, and in most-most of the cases, it has paid off, because even though they are newly-promoted, they are, as well, that good.
Wisla Krakow vs Gornik Zabrze: Betting Tips
Gornik’s double chance pays 1.70, which I definitely prefer to Wisla’s win at 2.10. If 1.70 looks poor to you, my other tip is not just Gornik (3.40), but “Gornik and over 2.5 goals”, at 5.25. Wisla just conceded three goals to Nieciecza(…), and they are hosting the team that have scored by far the most goals in the championship thus far.
