AEK Athens vs Asteras Tripolis
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 11 February 2018
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
AEK Athens are living a dream, even though… nothing is won yet. A week ago they beat Olympiakos 2-1 in Piraeus, staying alive in the fight for the Super League title (they are second in the table, two points behind leaders PAOK, having leapfrogged Olympiakos). Midweek, they beat Olympiakos again, this time at home, 2-1, in the Cup, and qualified for the semifinals, having drawn 0-0 in Piraeus in the first leg. The enthusiasm at AEK is such, that they had to make another stand available for their fans, for the upcoming Europa League game against Dynamo Kyiv. AEK are constructing their own stadium, but for the time being they have to play as hosts at the huge Olympic Stadium, a difficult venue to… fill up. AEK fans are so… over the moon these days, that ticket demand has exploded, “obliging” the club to make another part of the stands available.
A week after drawing 1-1 to Olympiakos at home, being left with the same result against Xanthi, again at home, felt like a let-down at Asteras Tripolis. Their coach lamented their inability to take advantage of the several chances they created to score. They were better, more attacking than their opponents, but at the end of the day, all they got was a 1-1 draw, staying 7th in the table, level on points with Xanthi and Panionios (who are above them). It was Asteras’ golden opportunity to climb 5th, a position that could give a Europa League ticket, depending on what happens in the Cup. Asteras have won just one of their last eight matches, Cup included, and it will be a major surprise if they manage to break that… practically winless run in this particular match.

AEK Athens vs Asteras Tripolis: Head to head Stats
Two wins for AEK, two for Asteras, and a draw, in the five games between these two in Athens since 2010. Interestingly, only the (2-2) draw had more than two goals.
AEK Athens vs Asteras Tripolis: Prediction
AEK’s win pays just 1.33, and for good reason. They have just won back-to-back games against Olympiakos, back-to-back Triumphs, capital “T”, and they are playing at home. The only question is… will they look focused? As for the Europa League match against Dynamo Kyiv, they had EL games earlier in the season as well, and hardly ever looked distracted.
AEK Athens vs Asteras Tripolis: Betting Tips
A simple AEK win pays 1.33, low, but combined with a clean sheet this goes up to a decent 1.80. “AEK and under 2.5 goals” pays 2.62, and suits my 2-0 hunch.
