AEK Athens vs Atromitos Athinon
Competition: Greece Cup
Date: 26 February 2019
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Three weeks ago, Ezequiel Ponce’s penalty kick in the 86th minute gave AEK a 0-1 victory at Atromitos, a result that turned them into favorites to qualify. Interestingly, the scorer got sent-off three minutes later, receiving a second yellow card. In the three Super League matches after that, AEK won two but lost the biggest one, at Olympiakos (4-1). On Saturday, they were given a real scare, struggling to beat bottom-of-the-table and practically already relegated Apollon Smyrnis at home(!). Truth is, the weather conditions were… weird, it was extremely windy, but AEK took the lead super early, in the 4th minute, thanks to a Lucas Boyé goal, and should have finished the game off, not worrying until deep into added time (2-1). Striker Tasos Bakasetas got injured on Saturday, and next day the overall feeling was that he wouldn’t be involved in the return leg against Atromitos. Other than him, centre-back Dmytro Chygrynskiy is still following a special training program, recovering from his latest injury, Left-back Niklas Hult is also out. At least central midfielder Kostas Galanopoulos is ok, despite picking up a knock on Saturday.
Amr Warda told reporters (soon after his return to Peristeri, once again on loan from PAOK), that Atromitos feels home to him. Last season, he was fantastic wearing their jersey, “obliging” PAOK to call him back. No one in Toumba doubts that the Egyptian is an awesome player, but… he just didn’t fit in, mentality-wise, attitude-wise, and PAOK felt it was better to send him out on loan again. Warda scored his first goal for Atromitos after his return there 10 days ago, in their 0-2 victory at PAS Giannina, and he did it again on Saturday, salvaging a point for his team in the 82nd minute, equalizing 1-1 at Asteras Tripolis. Atromitos sit 4th in the Super League table, and will have to shoot their own foot not to finish in the top four. As for the Cup, they were left gutted with the way they lost three weeks ago (late penalty), but… do keep in mind, they beat AEK the last two times they visited them in the Super League…

AEK Athens vs Atromitos Athinon: Prediction
I risk eating my words here, seeing AEK be considered big-big favorites to win, but I really expect Atromitos to leave the Olympic Stadium undefeated. With a ticket to the semifinals as well? Not so sure.
AEK Athens vs Atromitos Athinon: Betting Tips
At 2.30, Atromitos’ double chance pays well enough, I reckon, not to look for something else. Having written that, the way I see things, their win in “draw no bet”, at 4.25, is worth the risk.
