AEK Athens vs Kerkyra
Competition: Greek Super League
Date: 9 April 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
AEK grabbed one of the most important wins of the season at Platanias on Thursday, a win that made them huge favourites to finish in the top-five. The very bad news for them is that 27-year-old defender Lambropoulos, a guy who has played in almost all games this season, got seriously injured. The president of the club took immediate action and assured everyone that AEK will renew the contract of Lambropoulos, so that he doesn’t need to worry about his future all those months he will stay sidelined. Other than that, coach Jimenez has all his players at his disposal, he is expected though to make several changes to the starting lineup, first because they played at Platanias on Thursday night, and second because they are facing Olympiakos in a few days, in the first leg of the Cup semifinals.
Of the three games they’ve lost in the last three game weeks, the one against Olympiakos on Wednesday is the only one that no one can blame Kerkyra for. They were playing against the league leaders, the… seemingly eternal champions of Greece, so Kerkyra’s 0-2 defeat can be called… honorable, unlike their hideous ones against Veria and Iraklis just before that. Coach Grigoriou and his players keep saying that they want to finish the season leaving good impressions, but that ship has already sailed, since Kerkyra’s defeats to Veria and Iraklis have left a huge black mark on their season report. Brazilian striker Thuram, Kerkyra’s top goalscorer, is not unavailable, having reached the cards limit.
AEK Athens vs Kerkyra: Head-to-head Stats
AEK have beaten Kerkyra in their last two games at home with a total score of 6-0, but both games were in the Cup. Last time they hosted them in a Super League game it was in 2012, and Kerkyra ‘stole’ an 1-1 draw back then.
AEK Athens vs Kerkyra: Prediction
AEK. No doubt. Despite the several changes coach Jimenez is expected to make, AEK still have a very-very good roster, and the players who will be called to do the job in this specific game will have an extra motive to excel, so as to show Jimenez that he can count on them in the play-offs, where AEK have many chances to participate.
AEK Athens vs Kerkyra: Tips
A simple AEK win pays practically nothing. AEK to win and keep a clean sheet doesn’t come with huge potential earnings, but it’s definitely much better than a simple win.
