AEK Athens vs Lamia
Competition: Greece Cup
Date: 3 April 2019
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
Defender Marios Oikonomou scored AEK’s first goal against Panetolikos on Sunday, his first in 18 appearances for AEK, and – here comes the… best part – also first in four years(!), for any team. “I didn’t know how to celebrate, and my teammates made fun of me”, the 26-year-old defender told reporters after the game, smiling. AEK won 4-0, scoring late in the first and early in the second half (2-0). Boyé and Galanopoulous added two more goals in the last 10 minutes, rounding up an overall convincing (and more) AEK performance. There is no doubt they have… changed under Manolo Jiménez. Not from one day to another, not going from… one extreme to another, but they have definitely improved. They will not finish higher than third in the Super League, but the Cup gives them a golden opportunity to… make something out of this season.
What a season for Lamia… Who would have thought that four game weeks before the end of the Super League season they would be sitting 7th(!) in the table, present in the Cup semifinals… Just a proof that you don’t need a huge budget to create a good team playing decent football and earning positive results. On Saturday, they beat Panionios 1-0 at home, prolonging their undefeated run to nine matches (four wins and five draws). Actually, they have lost just one of their last 12. Their biggest, probably, accomplishment this season, at least thus far, has been that they eliminated two Greek football greats on their way to the Cup semifinals. First, they knocked Panathinaikos out, and then, incredibly, Olympiakos(!). No matter what happens against AEK, in a way, Lamia are already one of the big winners of the Greece Cup competition this season.

AEK Athens vs Lamia: Prediction
Lamia have already… hurt Panathinaikos and Olympiakos, so AEK have no excuse, they can’t claim they… didn’t see Lamia coming.
AEK Athens vs Lamia: Betting Tips
Everybody loves an underdog, but in this case, I just don’t see Lamia avoid defeat. Given that a simple AEK win pays just over 1.40, I would try “AEK to win and keep a clean sheet”, at 1.75. “AEK and under 2.5 goals” pays 2.45.
