AEK Athens vs Panionios
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 4 March 2018
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
I didn’t believe in AEK’s win last Monday at Atromitos, I suggested the hosts’ double chance and “both teams to score”, and the game ended 1-1. Midweek, again, I didn’t believe in AEK’s win at AEL Larissa, in the Greece Cup semifinal, and not only they didn’t win (despite taking the lead early in the second half), but they even lost with a last-minute goal (AEL’s double chance, my main tip, was at 2.00). That was their first loss after 26 undefeated games in all competitions! Up until 48 hours before kick-off, left-back Niklas Hult, defensive midfielder André Simões and centre-forward Sergio Araujo were doubts for the game against Panionios, having followed special training program after midweek’s game at AEL. Centre-back Uroš Ćosić was operated successfully, and won’t reappear this season. AEK are visiting PAOK next weekend, a game that is seen by many as the one that will decide which team will win the championship this season in Greece. As things stand at the moment, AEK are second, one point behind PAOK, having played an extra game, but PAOK face the danger of having points deducted.
An extraordinary thing happened midweek, at the end of Panionios’ Cup semifinal at home against PAOK. Despite having lost 3-1 to a clearly better team, Panionios’ players got applauded warmly by their fans, something that in other countries may be normal, but… not in Greece, not after defeats, especially ones that mean the end of a target. Panionios’ coach thanked his player for the “wonderful journey” in the Cup, all the way to the semis, as if admitting that overturning the situation in Thessaloniki in the return leg is… mission impossible. I bet against Panionios on Wednesday, I backed PAOK to win, and it paid 1.95. Last weekend, I sort of bet against Panionios again, I didn’t believe they would beat Asteras Tripolis at home, despite being considered favourites, and they didn’t they were left at 0-0. Defensive midfielder Washington Santana got injured and is unavailable.

AEK Athens vs Panionios: Head to head Stats
Three wins for AEK, one for Panionios, and a draw, in the last five games between these two with AEK as hosts. One game had two goals, and no other had more than one.
AEK Athens vs Panionios: Prediction
AEK should win. Unlike last weekend, they are playing at home, and Atromitos are nothing like Panionios this season.
AEK Athens vs Panionios: Betting Tips
A simple AEK win pays just 1.30. For more than that, I would risk with their win combined with a clean sheet. This way, it pays 1.80.
