AEL Larissa vs Asteras Tripolis
Competition: Greek Super League
Date: 5 April 2017
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
Larissa lost at PAOK last weekend, with their new coach watching from the stands. Dutch Andre Paus will sit on AEL’s bench for the first time in this game against Asteras, and that alone is reason enough to expect the hosts to give their all, so as to leave their new coach with the best possible impressions. Defender Jovanovic got injured against PAOK and most probably will miss the remaining games of the season. Another defender, Thicot, has been out for some time now due to injury. Midfielder Anastasopoulos has been dealing with a cold for a couple of days now, and he may miss the game. Last, striker Dodo returned to Greece to continue his therapy, but he’s not really expected to play again this season. Larissa need at least a draw in this game, so as to remain -relatively- safe.
I have been backing Asteras Tripolis to earn at least a draw in their three games since coach Vergetis returned to the club, and they have ‘delivered’ all three times, twice away from home. What’s impressive for a team that had seven straight losses in February and March, is that in all three games they earned a point since Vergetis took charge, they conceded first, and had to come back. What’s not just impressive, but almost… creepy, is that they scored their goals in the 68th, 70th, and 69th minute!! Looking at the table Asteras still have a -kind of- safe distance from the relegation zone, they are four points above Iraklis, but this could well change if Iraklis beat 14th-placed Levadiakos, so Vergetis and his players need to keep fighting and earn at least a draw at Larissa.
AEL Larissa vs Asteras Tripolis: Head-to-head Stats
Last time AEL hosted Asteras it was in 2010 (AEL had been playing in the second category ever since), and back then the visitors left Larissa with all three points. In this season’s first round, the two teams drew 1-1 in Tripoli.
AEL Larissa vs Asteras Tripolis: Prediction
I’m not overlooking the fact that Larissa will be playing with a new coach at the helm, but I stay firm in my belief that Asteras will continue not losing, especially knowing that the hosts will be, once again, without key players. Draw.
AEL Larissa vs Asteras Tripolis: Tips
Draw pays 2.95. If you feel like acting… greedy, 1-1 as final score pays 6.00.
