AEL Larissa vs Atromitos
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 3 February 2019
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
You’ve got to love AEL Larissa… If you follow them, there is never a boring day… They lost 4-0 at Olympiakos midweek. At halftime, their president made a long statement against the coach(!), Gianluca Festa, blaming him for dropping key players, prioritizing this weekend’s game over the one in Piraeus last Wednesday. After the match, the Italian coach responded, saying that the president “is a very passionate man”. Festa insisted that he needed to rest some players, because they had just faced Panathinaikos, and had this game against Atromitos coming up. He also said that avoiding relegation is his top priority, while the club president has openly talked, more than once or twice, about finishing in a Europa League position. They are currently 11th, on 20 points.
The way Atromitos played midweek, against OFI, in Crete, and what their coach told reporters after the game, left me with the impression that the Peristeri side are… perfectly fine with finishing fourth, not really ambitious to finish in the top two, even third, and focusing on dropping fifth. Against OFI, they looked totally unwilling to take any risk in the second half to win the game, after drawing 1-1 in the first 45 minutes. Their coach said “we earned an important result”, but it was just one point, against a team that is below the relegation line. I repeat, Atromitos leave me with the impression that they don’t believe in… outdoing themselves, they don’t believe in the mini miracle of a top two finish, have already settled for finishing fourth.

AEL Larissa vs Atromitos: Head to head Stats
A goalless draw, and a 1-2 Atromitos win in Larissa in the two matches between these two there the last three years. Before 2016, AEL hadn’t hosted the Peristeri side since 2010.
AEL Larissa vs Atromitos: Prediction
I’ll be surprised if Atromitos win this game, not because they don’t have the roster to do that, but because they lack (right now) the right attitude to win away from home.
