AEL Larissa vs Panetolikos
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 15 April 2018
Kick-off: 14:00 CET
It could safely be written that this game against Panetolikos is not a top priority for AEL Larissa, who, in a few days, are playing the… match of the season against AEK, in Athens. It’s the return leg of a Cup semifinal, AEL have won 2-1 at home in the first leg, and have a real chance of reaching the final, where, most-most probably, PAOK will be waiting. Ten days ago, AEL filed their papers to UEFA, “just in case”. They hope that even if they don’t earn a Europa League ticket on the pitch, other teams will miss their chance (having failed to supply UEFA with all the papers needed to have their international licence verified), and they will, eventually, play international football next season. On another note, defensive midfielder Tasos Lagos was expelled from the squad, after a fierce exchange of words with coach Sotiris Antoniou.
Panetolikos bounced back from two defeats in a row two weeks ago when they hosted PAS Giannina, beat them 1-0, and earned the right to keep dreaming of a top 5 finish, as they are four points behind 5th-placed Asteras Tripolis and Xanthi. Given that this is… Greece, though, Panetolikos’ accomplishments on the pitch may mean nothing by the end of the season. Their main shareholder, Fotis Kostoulas, talked about his club’s main problem, as well as that of 6-7 other clubs. They don’t have a TV deal yet, for next season, unlike eight other Super League clubs, that have already signed contracts with a certain digital platform. According to Kostoulas, if Panetolikos and those other 6-7 clubs don’t find a solution until late May, then, if the existing regulation is implemented, only eight teams will meet the financial criteria to play in the Super League next season, with the other eight getting relegated. Under these circumstances, “talking” about playing in the Europa League next season, feels almost… surreal.

AEL Larissa vs Panetolikos: Head to head Stats
Larissa beat Panetolikos 1-0 at home last season. Before that, they hadn’t hosted them since 2013 (goalless draw).
AEL Larissa vs Panetolikos: Prediction
I’m thrilled to see AEL be considered such clear favourites to win the game, because I am ab-so-lu-te-ly backing Panetolikos to earn at least a draw.
AEL Larissa vs Panetolikos: Betting Tips
Panetolikos’ double chance at 1.80 is my main tip, even though, deep down, I expect them to win the game. Their victory in “draw no bet” pays 3.00(!).
