AEL Larissa vs Platanias
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 25 February 2018
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
AEL Larissa were poor last weekend, they didn’t deserve something more than what they “earned”, a 1-0 defeat to Panathinaikos at home. Coach Findanis is gone, Dostanic is back (he has worked there before), having two missions: top one, avoid relegation. They are sitting 12th in the table, relatively safe, but 15th-placed Apollon Smyrnis are six points behind them, and with seven matches left, AEL are not out of the woods yet. Second, perform a… mini miracle in the Cup semifinals, eliminating AEK. If they do (which feels improbable, but… you never know), they will most probably earn a Europa League ticket, crazy as this may look for a team of AEL’s stature and roster. They haven’t scored in their last five Super League matches, have scored just once in their last seven, and haven’t won a game since mid December.
A week ago, the gap between Platanias and the first team right above the relegation zone was six points. Now it’s eight, and there is one game less left until the end of the season. Mathematical chances are all Platanias have right now to avoid relegation. Realistically looking at this, they are with a foot and a half in the Football League (second division). Last weekend they lost 3-0 at home to PAS Giannina, another victim of Pedro Conde. The Spaniard scored twice in the first six minutes of the second half to practically put the game to bed. Platanias looked… decent in the first half, but nothing more than that. Last season they impressed, this season they have been systematically poor (if not pathetic). This season’s Platanias won’t be missed next year in the Super League.

AEL Larissa vs Platanias: Head to head Stats
Last season, AEL and Platanias drew 0-0 in Larissa. Before that, they hadn’t faced each other there since 2012 (a 1-0 Platanias win).
AEL Larissa vs Platanias: Prediction
AEL haven’t scored in five matches, but with a new coach leading them, and with their ego hurt after back-to-back bad results, I actually expect a reaction, a win, over a very weak opponent.
AEL Larissa vs Platanias: Betting Tips
AEL’s win pays 1.83. “Under 2.5 goals” is at 1.53 betting odds. For something around 3.00, combine those two, if you share my AEL 1-0 or 2-0 hunch.
