AEL Larissa vs Xanthi
Competition: Greece Cup
Date: 21 December 2017
Kick-off: 14:00 CET
AEL Larissa have already beaten Xanthi at home earlier this season, actually just 10 days ago, when these two met in a Super League game. Back then, it was a last-second goal that gave Larissa the win, which was followed by another “three-pointer” last weekend, at Lamia, AEL’s second win away from home this season. They are 7th in the Super League table, something that… I need to read again to believe it myself, having in mind how poor they were last season, and how similarly weak they seemed at the start of the current season. Somehow, they found a way to… outdo themselves, and not just in one or two matches, but in a whole series, climbing up 7th(!). The fact that they have lost just one of their last 10 matches is just… mind-blowing, by AEL standards. Kudos to them.
Under different circumstances, a 1-1 draw to Panathinaikos wouldn’t be a failure for any team in Greece. Given though that things are at Panathinaikos this season, failing to beat them at home was a failure for Xanthi, no matter if they are not having their best season ever either. Jendrišek salvaged a point for them in the 78th minute, a single point that wasn’t enough to help Xanthi maintain their either way average position in the table. They have fallen 9th, looking nothing like the team that fought for a UEFA Europa League ticket until late last season. Interestingly, they have looked decent away from home recently, losing just one of their last five games on the road, at AEL, ten days ago.

AEL Larissa vs Xanthi: Head to head Stats
Impressive… The hosts have five straight wins over Xanthi at home, without having conceded a single goal. Only one match went over 2.5 goals.
AEL Larissa vs Xanthi: Prediction
I don’t see a clear favourite, but I really doubt Larissa will lose this game. Xanthi will be fine with a draw, especially if it’s one with goals.
AEL Larissa vs Xanthi: Betting Tips
AEL’s double chance pays just 1.40, low, but very-very probable to come good. Their win in “draw no bet” is at 1.83 betting odds. Deep down I expect a goalless draw, or a late Larissa goal, so for more than 1.83, I would gamble with “under 1.5”, at 2.25.
