Al Duhail vs Al Sadd
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 6 August 2019
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
This feels hard to believe, but various reports seem to agree, a friendly game between Al Duhail and Portimonense just over a week ago was abandoned in the 85th minute because Ali Hassan Afif head-butted(!!!) an opponent, Iury Castilho. Things on the pitch had started getting ugly before that, there had been a three-minute interruption around the 75th minute when people from both benches jumped on the field after what is described in reports as yet another “unnecessary hard tackle” by an Al Duhail player. The irony of the matter is that the Qatari side are coach by a Portuguese, Rui Faria, so you would expect them to keep a lower profile during their training camp in Portugal. Head-butts and hard tackles-aside, Al Duhail have Tunisian winger Yousef Msakni back, after his loan spell at Belgian side Eupen. Also, they signed Iraqi striker Mohanad Ali from Al Shorta. In the AFC CL group stage they finished second, behind Al Hilal. They haven’t played an official match since May 20, a 2-2 at home with Al Hilal.
This game is special for Al Sadd not only because it’s an AFC CL round of 16 match against big domestic rivals Al Duhail, but also because this is the first time Xavi will lead them from the bench as their coach in an official game. The Catalan took over at the end of last season, succeeding Jesualdo Ferreira. Al Sadd finished first in their group, leaving Al Ahli second. They are the reigning champions in Qatar, but last time they faced Al Duhail, in May, in the Emir Cup final, they got embarrassed, losing 4-1.

One win for Al Duhail, two for Al Sadd, and two draws, in the last five games between these two with Al Duhail as hosts.
Al Duhail vs Al Sadd: Prediction
Huge game. Al Sadd are given by betting companies an advantage to win, but I wouldn’t bet against this Al Duhail. I prefer to focus on goals.
Al Duhail vs Al Sadd: Betting Tips
“Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score” is at 1.85. Make that “over 3.5 goals”, and you get to hope for a much better 2.70.
