Al Hilal vs Al Duhail
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 12 March 2019
Kick-off: 16:45 CET
“Al Hilal’s win pays 2.55. I like it so much (risking eating my words), that I would skip the ‘draw no bet’ safety net. If you don’t share my hunch/belief, their double chance combined with “under 3.5 goals” is at 2.05”. That’s what you read here last weekend, and thankfully I didn’t have to eat my words, as Al Hilal won indeed. Sebastian Giovinco wasn’t impressive, generally I wouldn’t even consider calling Al Hilal impressive, but… what is impressive is… exactly that, that they beat away from home a very good team without playing their best possible game. It gives you an idea how big Al Hilal’s potential is. On Friday they drew 1-1 at home with Al Wahda. They remain leaders in Saudi Arabia’s championship, four points ahead of second-placed Al Nassr.
I doubt even Al Duhail’s players, coach, fans, could believe they had beaten Esteghlal by three goals when last Tuesday’s game was over. They took the lead in the 56th minute, having probably their first real chance in the match. Mehdi Benatia, a former Juventus player, headed the ball in after a corner kick, taking advantage of some really sloppy Esteghlal defending. After that goal, it felt like the Iranians didn’t believe they could come back. Second goal for Al Duhail in the 73rd minute, and cherry on top in added time, a… weird 3-0, in a match that for 56 minutes (until Al Duhail’s first goal) seemed perfectly within Esteghlal’s reach. No games in Qatar’s championship last weekend, so Al Duhail remain second there, four points behind leaders Al Sadd.

Al Hilal vs Al Duhail: Prediction
I can’t hide that I consider Al Hilal one of the favorites to reach the quarterfinals, minimum. Al Duhail are a strong team, but I’m tipping the hosts to make it “two out of two”.
