Al Rayyan vs Al Hilal
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 12 March 2018
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
What a game last week in Riyadh, as Al Rayyan managed to snatch a 1-1 draw, staying above Al Hilal in the table. Al Rayyan took the lead just two minutes into the game, and missed an incredible double chance to make it 0-2 later in the first half, having two attempts on the posts in a matter of… 2-3 seconds. Al Hilal took over in the second half, equalised, missed big chances to win the game, even in added time, but ironically, it was Al Rayyan who missed the last huge chance of the match in the fourth minute of added time, seconds before the final whistle. All things considered, someone could claim that 1-1 was a fair result, as the game could have been won by either side. Al Rayyan have three draws in as many games in the group, but have two matches left at home, which is obviously a plus for them. They lost 3-1 to Al Arabi on Friday in their championship, in Qatar, but will still finish third and play AFC CL football next season. Fourth-placed Al Gharafa are seven points behind them, and there are only two games left.
Al Hilal are in trouble. It feels like the owners chose the worst possible moment to fire Ramón Díaz… They are still without a permanent replacement, and in a matter of days they made their life much harder in two competitions. Their 1-1 draw at home to Al Rayyan last week left them at the bottom of the table in their AFC CL group. Still, just one point behind two teams, so… the situation is reversible. On Friday, they lost 2-1 at Al Ittifaq, Al Ahli won their game, so Al Hilal are now just one little point ahead of second-placed Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia’s championship. They still have to visit them though, in April. It’s not like Al Hilal have… forgotten how to play good football. It’s mostly that they look… “lost”, not focused, definitely not clinical, and maybe, just maybe, not totally “hungry” to win games.

Al Rayyan vs Al Hilal: Head to head Stats
Al Rayyan have hosted Al Hilal twice before, losing both times. They lost 2-0 in 2013, and 4-3 last season. Both games were in the AFC CL group stage.
Al Rayyan vs Al Hilal: Prediction
I find this game extremely tricky, but… I know I don’t expect Al Hilal to lose. That would be a major surprise for me, given how critical this game is.
Al Rayyan vs Al Hilal: Betting Tips
Al Hilal’s double chance is at 1.45, low, but I repeat, I just don’t see the Saudi Arabian giants lose this game. Their win in “draw no bet” pays 1.80, but that’s the only way I would bet on their win, keeping the safety net of “draw no bet”.
