Al Wasl vs Persepolis
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 13 March 2018
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
Persepolis’ win over Al Wasl last week was paying under 1.40, but combined with a clean sheet it went up to a satisfying 2.30, and that was my tip. It came good, as Al Wasl lost, failing to score (2-0). Generally, they looked rather harmless offensively. No surprise, as they have now scored just one goal in their last five matches. They are without points in their AFC CL group, while all other teams, all three, are on six points. Last weekend they drew 0-0 at Shabab Al Ahli Dubai, their first draw after four consecutive defeats. It was a League Cup semifinal, first leg, they have the return one at home.
Performances-aside, Persepolis should receive a big “thank you” from the AFC after every home game of theirs. In a competition that, sadly, most stadiums are empty or close to empty, Persepolis (and other Iranian teams) still draw respectable crowds, showing other countries how you’re supposed to follow your team in such a big competition as the AFC Champions League. Persepolis are one of the three group teams on six points. The way things are going, whoever drops points against Al Wasl will have a major disadvantage. This is a “must-win” game for Persepolis, and it was rather good for them that last weekend they didn’t have a game in their league, in Iran, which gave them more time to prepare for this match in the UAE.

Al Wasl have never hosted Persepolis before.
Al Wasl vs Persepolis: Prediction
I was hoping Persepolis’ win would be paying more than 1.75, but… can’t complain too much. They should win, even by just one goal.
Al Wasl vs Persepolis: Betting Tips
Persepolis’ win is at 1.60, and that’s my main tip. Pushing it a bit, I would add a clean sheet to that, tempted by the 3.20 it pays. If you prefer to take things somewhat more conservatively, you could go for “no” on “both teams to score”, at 2.05. Al Wasl have scored just one goal in the group thus far, one goal in their last five games combined, but for some reason, betting companies expect them to score in this match.
