Apollon Smyrnis vs Lamia
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 25 November 2017
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
Apollon Smyrnis players left AEL Larissa last weekend absolutely gutted, knowing that they didn’t deserve to lose that game. They had 20 fantastic minutes at the start of the second half, the ball just… refused to go in, they conceded the only goal of the match in the 85th minute mostly because one of their defenders stumbled and fell, leaving a Larissa player free to shoot, and then, in added time, missed another great chance to at least salvage a point. Apollon lost, but no one can blame them for not trying, for not playing well, for not creating chances. Draw would have been a far more fair result, but… Their loss in Larissa put an end to a great unbeaten run of two wins and two draws. They finished last weekend sitting 15th in the table, second-to-last, but their distance from 10th-placed Lamia is just… a win away, three points.
Lamia are newly-promoted, so… you have to give them a break, but still, playing with two extra men for more than 45 minutes, at home, and failing to score, is unacceptable even for a newly-promoted team. During added time of the first half last weekend, when they hosted Kerkyra, they won a penalty that led to their equalizing (1-1), and at the same time Kerkyra were reduced to ten men. Before the referee whistled for the last time in the first half, he sent off a second Kerkyra player, making things simpler for Lamia. Or so it looked. They created one chance after another in the second half, even deep into added time, but nothing worked, and amazingly, they were obliged to settle for a single point. If by the end of the season Lamia get relegated for one or two points, this is the match they should go back to, and answer “where could we have found those missing points?” For the time being, they are 10th in the table, doing much-much better than what anyone expected.

Apollon Smyrnis vs Lamia: Head to head Stats
Apollon Smyrnis have hosted Lamia just twice in the past, both times were in the last two years, both games were for the Football League (second division), and ended by the same score, 1-0 for the hosts.
Apollon Smyrnis vs Lamia: Prediction
Lamia haven’t scored in four of their five away games this season, while Apollon have scored six goals in their last two home games, which they won, both. Even so, I’m very hesitant to suggest an Apollon win, feeling, for some reason, that the game will have no winner.
Apollon Smyrnis vs Lamia: Betting Tips
Draw pays 2.95. I hardly ever suggest a draw alone, but in this case, following mostly a hunch rather than analytical interpretation of numbers and performances, I’m going with that, the hunch, and I’m suggesting draw. A more conservative approach would be Lamia’s double chance, at 1.67 betting odds.
