Apollon Smyrnis vs Panetolikos
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 5 March 2018
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Second straight 2-0 defeat away from home last weekend for Apollon Smyrnis, at Xanthi, another result that pushed them just a tad closer to getting relegated. They are second-to-last, two points below 14th-placed Kerkyra, their main rivals. Central midfielder Stavros Tsoukalas is back, after missing last weekend’s game due to cards. On the other hand, centre-back Sebastián Bartolini and right-back Giannis Kontoes are out due to cards. Apollon are 13 game weeks in the Super League without a win, more than half the season thus far, their last victory was early November, that crazy 4-3 at home over PAS Giannina. Their coach, Giorgos Paraschos, tried to… boost his players’ morale these last days, but… remains to be see how he did.
December 2014, January 2015. That’s how back in time you need to go to find the last time Panetolikos won three games in a row. That’s exactly what they did in February, last month, returning my trust in them, having seen a major difference in the team ever since Traianos Dellas took over as coach. Last weekend they beat Kerkyra 1-0 at home, not playing that well though. The fact that they have reached the point of winning matches even without being at the top of their game, says something. Central midfielder Marcos Paulo is injured and banned due to cards. Left-back Tasos Tsokanis and centre-back Miguel Rodrigues are also injured and unavailable. Panetolikos are 10th, in the table, but just three points behind 5th-placed Xanthi, still in with a chance to earn a UEFA Europa League ticket.

Apollon Smyrnis vs Panetolikos: Head to head Stats
Apollon haven’t hosted Panetolikos since 2013. That game ended in a 1-1 draw. A few months earlier, Panetolikos had won 2-0 at the same stadium.
Apollon Smyrnis vs Panetolikos: Prediction
For some reason I don’t understand, Apollon Smyrnis, a team that haven’t won a Super League game since early November, are considered relatively clear favourites to beat Panetolikos, the only team in the league other than PAOK who have nine points from their last three matches. I’m definitely backing the visitors to earn at least a draw.
Apollon Smyrnis vs Panetolikos: Betting Tips
Panetolikos’ double chance pays 1.61, not crazily well, but with awesome chances of coming good, I reckon. Panetolikos’s win in “draw no bet” is at 2.25 betting odds.
