Arsenal vs FC Koln
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 14 September 2017
Kick-off: 21:05 CET
It feels weird seeing Arsenal in a Europa League group, but… it will definitely be interesting, especially after Arsene Wenger’s public admittance that the competition comes second, as far as he’s concerned, and will rotate the team as much as needed, whenever needed. Less than 72 hours after this game is over, the Gunners will be facing Chelsea in the Premier League. Antonio Conte, Chelsea’s manager, rotated his squad in Tuesday’s Champions League game against Qarabag (6-0), and we should expect Wenger to do exactly the same, if not more than that, given the small time gap between this match and the London derby.
Unlike Arsenal, playing in the Europa League, international football, is a big deal for FC Koln, their first time in years, a reward for how well they did in last season’s Bundesliga. Once again, unlike Arsenal, FC Koln are expected to play with their best possible 11, knowing, deep down, that this is their chance to earn a big result against a huge opponent, for whom, though, the Europa League is not a top priority. Last weekend, Koln lost 3-0 at Augsburg, their third defeat in as many Bundesliga matches, in what has been a very poor start of the season for them.

Arsenal vs FC Koln: Head to head Stats
Arsenal have hosted Koln once before, almost 40 years ago, in 1971, in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup. They beat them 2-1 in London (and lost 1-0 in Germany).
Arsenal vs FC Koln: Prediction
No matter how extensive Wenger’s rotation will be, and no matter how many empty seats there will be at Emirates, Arsenal should still win the game, mostly because even their reserves are better than FC Koln’s regulars.
Arsenal vs FC Koln: Betting Tips
A simple Arsenal win pays just 1.40. I expect the reserves of the Gunners to look super motivated and do everything possible to score as much as possible and generally put on an… entertaining show. Arsenal and over 2.5 combined total goals is at 1.95.
