Arsenal vs Liverpool
Competition: England Premier League
Date: 22 December 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Arsenal beat West Ham 1-0 on Tuesday to secure a spot in the EFL Cup semifinals (they are going to face Chelsea there), Danny Welbeck was glad to put his name on the scoresheet, but minutes before the final whistle Olivier Giroud got injured, had to be substituted, which was very bad news for the Gunners. The Frenchman may not be a regular this season, but even so, he is the team’s second scorer, having found the back of the net on numerous occasions coming off from the bench. The irony of the thing is that his agent, less than 24 hours earlier, had practically announced that he will do his best to find another club for his client during the winter transfer window, hoping to convince Arsene Wenger that a Giroud move in January would be beneficial for all parties involved. With the Frenchman out for an undetermined period of time, things get very complicated. Arsenal beat Newcastle 1-0 at home last weekend, bouncing back from back-to-back draws in the Premier League. They are fifth in the table, a single point below 4th-placed Liverpool.
Just like Arsenal, Liverpool had back-to-back draws in the Premier League before winning last weekend, at Bournemouth, 4-0(!). It was practically all over by halftime, as the Reds were already leading 3-0. Talking to reporters, Jurgen Klopp said that the derby at the Emirates Stadium won’t be a “children’s party”, and will definitely look way different to the August match between the two teams, when Liverpool did throw a party at Anfield, triumphing 4-0 over Arsenal. The Reds have lost just one game since September 19, that 4-1 embarrassment at Tottenham, on October 22, and not just that, but they have looked anything from “good” to “awesome” in most of their games these last three months. They are 4th in the table, a single point above 5th-placed Arsenal.

Arsenal vs Liverpool: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Arsenal, one for Liverpool, and a draw, in the last five games between these two at the Emirates Stadium. Three of those five matches went over 2.5 goals.
Arsenal vs Liverpool: Prediction
Arsenal have the extra motive of wanting to “respond” to that 4-0 humiliation at Anfield earlier this season. Even so, and despite the fact they are considered slight favourites to win, I’m backing Liverpool to earn at least a draw.
Arsenal vs Liverpool: Betting Tips
Liverpool’s double chance is at 1.53 betting odds. Their win in “draw no bet” pays 2.00. I’m leaving goals aside, because I feel that “over 2.5” at just 1.50 is simply not worth the risk.
