Asteras Tripolis vs Aris
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 11 February 2019
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Asteras Tripolis… did their duty last week, earning two positive results that a serious team like them was expected to earn. First, they beat Apollon Smyrnis 0-2 on the road, a must-win game, as they were visiting the weakest team in the Super League. Midweek, they beat Ergotelis 0-1 in Crete, making a big step towards qualifying for the Cup semifinals. If PAOK, Olympiakos and AEK are also in the semifinals, which is the most probable, Asteras’ chances of winning the title will be very limited, but even so, being in the last four will be a big thing for the modest Tripoli side. They are on 21 points in the Super League, eight behind 5th-placed Aris. It feels like this is their last chance to stay close to the top five, just in case they manage to repeat last season’s success, earn a Europa League ticket. Central midfielder Juan Munafo is out, injured, and centre-back Kostas Triantafyllopoulos is also unavailable, suspended.
Hat off to Aris for picking up 10 points from five Super League matches in 2019, despite scoring just three goals in total. All three were enough to give them wins, and that’s because Aris have conceded just one goal in those same five matches. Ironically, that goal was in Livadia, in their 1-0 defeat to second-to-last Levadiakos. Last weekend they beat PAS Giannina 1-0 at home, thanks to a Mateo García goal in the 77th minute. Coach Savvas Pantelidis enjoys the… luxury of having Giannis Fetfatzidis available, the attacking midfielder they just signed from Olympiakos. Also, Spaniard Fran Vélez is available. You know what they say, “you don’t change a winning lineup”, but… Vélez was among the regulars before his injury, and Fetfatzidis looked hungry to play this past week, giving his best in training. He enjoyed very little game time at Olympiakos in the first half of the season, so he can’t wait to sweat his jersey in a proper game, not just in training. Aris started matchday 20 sitting 5th in the table, on 29 points.

Asteras Tripolis vs Aris: Prediction
Super interesting game. The hosts are considered favorites to win, but I’d risk with Aris’ double chance.
