Asteras Tripolis vs Atromitos
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 17 February 2018
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
I didn’t expect Asteras Tripolis to score last weekend at AEK Athens, I did expect them to lose but keep the score low, and that’s exactly what happened. They lost 1-0, conceding only from the penalty spot in the second half. Their coach was… honest enough to say after the final whistle that AEK beat them fairly, as Asteras created very few chances to score themselves. The Tripoli side are 7th in the table, having picked up just two points from their last four matches. Two of those were against AEK and Olympiakos, but versus Lamia (they lost 1-0) and Xanthi (drew 1-1) they should have done a much-much better job. Still, they are only three points behind 5th-placed Panionios. Depending on what happens in the Greece Cup, even the fifth Super League spot could be good enough to give a team a Europa League ticket.
Atromitos came super close to beating Olympiakos last weekend. They took the lead twice, the second time in the 66th minute, but the referee awarded Olympiakos a dubious penalty just before the 90-minute mark. Djurdjevic saw Atromitos’ goalkeeper deny him, but in the continuation Hajsafi equalised for Olympiakos, leaving the hosts fuming at the referee for his penalty decision, and at the same time unable to believe their… bad luck, conceding after having their goalkeeper deny the penalty taker. Atromitos were and remained fourth in the table, but Olympiakos have been punished with a three-point deduction. They have appealed, so as it stands, they are still on 43 points. If the decision for the deduction of the points still stands after their appeal is dealt with, they will be down to 40, meaning that if Atromitos had protected their lead last weekend, they would find themselves higher than Olympiakos in the table. Atromitos’ double chance (1.57) and “both teams to score” (2.05) were my tips last weekend.

Atromitos have back-to-back wins at Asteras Tripolis. Before that, the Tripoli side had three wins in a row at home over Atromitos. Amazingly, all five matches had just one goal (each).
Asteras Tripolis vs Atromitos: Prediction
Asteras Tripolis are considered favourites to win the game, but I really-really like the chances of Atromitos to leave Tripoli with at least a point.
Asteras Tripolis vs Atromitos: Betting Tips
Atromitos’ double chance is at 1.60, which I consider very probable to come good. Deep down I expect the visitors to win. Their victory in “draw no bet” pays 2.25.
