Asteras Tripolis vs PAOK
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 13 January 2019
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Asteras Tripolis won their last five games in 2018, conceding just one goal in their last six (they had drawn 0-0 before the five victories), but midweek they conceded three times(!), losing 3-2 to AEL in Larissa. It was the first leg of a Greece Cup round of 16 tie, and Asteras’… excuse for looking the way they looked defensively (AEL even had a perfectly good goal annulled as offside), was that the pitch was “dangerous”. That’s how they called it, and in all fairness, the condition of the field was dreadful indeed, because of the harsh weather conditions in part of Greece recently. Despite losing, Asteras have every reason to hope they’ll overturn the situation in the return leg, thanks to their two away goals. In the Super League, they are 9th, on 18 points. Be reminded, last season they caused huge damage to PAOK towards the end of the year, beating them 3-2 after a dramatic 95-minute game.
PAOK seem to be at a crossroads; they will either deal with losing their top scorer, Aleksandar Prijovic (may be by signing a new player, may be by trusting other strikers they have in their roster and haven’t been given much game time since the start of the season), staying strong mentally, or they can destroy everything they’ve been building since day one of this Super League edition. They are not just leading, they are eight whole points ahead of second-placed Olympiakos, and the game between the two in the second round is in Thessaloniki. In other words, PAOK are really holding their fate into their own hands. It won’t be piece of cake to win their first championship in almost 35 years(!), but the way things have come, it depends on them first and foremost. Midweek, they lost 2-1 at Panachaiki, looking very-very poor. They have the return leg of this Greece Cup round of 16 tie at home though, and should get the job done there. Be reminded, they’ve won the Cup two seasons in a row, beating AEK in both finals.

PAOK are considered favorites, but right now, I don’t trust them.
Asteras Tripolis vs PAOK: Betting Tips
A simple PAOK double chance is at 1.38, but if combined with “over 1.5”, that goes up to a more than decent 1.95. I have a 1-1 hunch, but I’m not ruling out a PAOK victory, simply because they are – on a good day – a far better team than Asteras.
