Asteras Tripolis vs PAOK
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 4 March 2018
Kick-off: 14:00 CET
Asteras Tripolis’ double chance last weekend at Panionios was at 1.85, almost as good as Panionios’ win alone, and that was my only tip, trusting the Tripoli side to leave Nea Smirni undefeated. They did, earning a goalless draw. Right winger Nikos Kaltsas returned to the team, after talking with his coach. He had been punished for “lack of discipline”, but the two men talked things through, and the 27-year-old was allowed back into the squad. An interesting detail regarding this match is that only season ticket holders will be allowed in. Asteras were afraid “unwanted” fans would try to buy tickets and cause troubles, the Tripoli club didn’t want any of that, so they took the decision to keep attendance to the minimum. Asteras haven’t won in their last six games, and have gradually fallen 9th in the table.
Three days after the ridiculous things that happened in PAOK’s derby against Olympiakos, the one that never started because a roll of paper “landed” on the mouth/chin of Olympiakos’ coach, PAOK traveled to Athens to face Panionios in a Greece Cup semifinal, first leg. I backed them to win, their victory was at 1.95, and they did, impressing actually. They left Nea Smirni with a 3-1 win, having practically qualified for the final, where they will be facing either AEK or AEL Larissa. As things stand at the moment, PAOK are leaders, one point ahead of AEK, and with a game in hand. They may still get punished for what happened last weekend though, and could see three points deducted. Even so, they are still to host AEK, meaning that… worst case scenario, even if they have three points deducted, with a win at Asteras Tripolis, they will host AEK next weekend knowing that a win there will get them first, again.
