Athletico Paranaense vs Corinthians
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 19 May 2019
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Tiago Nunes, Athletico Paranaense’s coach, is trying to… balance things up, rotate the team in such a way so as to have the most competitive possible group of players on the pitch in every game, knowing that the Curitiba side have a match every 3-4 days. Last weekend they beat Bahia 1-0 at home, playing… just enough to win the game. Midweek, they earned a goalless draw at Fortaleza, in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil round of 16 tie. They are now hosting Corinthians, and on Wednesday they have yet another game, the first leg of the Recopa Sudamericana final, against reigning Copa Libertadores champions River Plate. Nunes did not even try to hide that he is prioritizing the River match, opting for having several “reserves” in the starting lineup against Corinthians. Santos, Erick, Bambu, Lucas Halter, Márcio Azevedo (or Renan Lodi), Wellington, Léo Cittadini, Tomás Andrade, Thonny Anderson, Braian Romero and Marcelo Cirino (or Rony), these are the guys expected to be on the pitch at kickoff.
Corinthians have their own… busy schedule. They too played midweek, lost 0-1 at home to Flamengo in Copa do Brasil, bad result (they still have the return leg in Rio de Janeiro), and they have another game coming up, at home, versus Deportivo Lara, in Copa Sudamericana. Fábio Carille finds himself in the same… shoes as Tiago Nunes, having to decide whom among his “regulars” he will keep in the starting lineup, and who would be better off getting a rest. According to reports, Corinthians will start with Cássio, Fagner, Manoel, Henrique, Danilo Avelar, Ralf, Júnior Urso (or Ramiro), Mateus Vital (or Vagner Love), Sornoza, Clayson and Boselli.

Athletico Paranaense vs Corinthians: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Athletico and two for Corinthians in the last five games between these two in Curitiba.
Athletico Paranaense vs Corinthians: Prediction
The hosts are considered favorites to win, but I expect them to rotate more… heavily than Corinthians, so deep down I like the visitors’ chances of earning at least a draw.
Athletico Paranaense vs Corinthians: Betting Tips
Corinthians’ double chance is at 1.80. I would stay with that, considering this game too tricky to take an even bigger risk.
