Atletico Goianiense vs Botafogo
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 24 July 2017
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
There are two things I expected in Atletico’s game at Sport on Thursday. First, them to lose. Second, them not to score. They did lose, and 4-0, paying the 2.40 Sport’s win combined with a clean sheet came with. In the preview of that game I wrote that by every game week that passes, Atletico are falling deeper and deeper into a hole that when and if they manage to start reacting, it may be too late to get out of. They remain at the bottom of the table, nine points behind 16th-placed Atletico Paranaense, the first team right above the relegation line. To write that they absolutely need to start winning games, especially at home, would be an understatement.
After back-to-back wins over Fluminense and Sport Recife, the 0-0 against Atletico Paranaense was a bit of a letdown for Botafogo. It suited me just fine though, since I had predicted/suggested ‘under 1.5’, which paid 2.75. Emerson, Botafogo’s 22-year-old defender, played just his second game this season against Atletico Paranaense, and… managed to get sent-off in the 86th minute, seeing a second yellow card in 20 minutes. Obviously, he’s unavailable. Coach Jair Ventura said that the club’s latest signings, Leo Valencia and Brenner, will not play against Atletico Goianiense. Brenner, a 23-year-old center-forward, is expected to make his debut next weekend against Sao Paulo. Leo Valencia, Botafogo’s new 26-year-old Chilean midfielder, signed at the club two weeks ago, but his papers are not ready yet, so he has to sit out again. Emerson is not the only suspended at Botafogo. Carli, Igor Rabello and Rodrigo Pimpão all three received their third yellow card of the season, and had to miss the trip to Goias. Keep in mind that Botafogo are playing a huge game on Wednesday, they are hosting Atletico Mineiro in the return leg of their Copa do Brasil quarterfinal, having lost 1-0 in Belo Horizonte.
Atletico Goianiense vs Botafogo: Head-to-head Stats
One win for Atletico, one draw, and two victories for the visitors since 2010, in the four games they’ve played in Goias.
Atletico Goianiense vs Botafogo: Prediction
I almost feel… sorry for Atletico Goianiense, I want to believe in them, I want to see them fight for survival, Botafogo traveled to Goias without four suspended players, they have a huge Copa do Brasil game coming up, but despite all that, I just can’t see how Atletico can win this game. I am taking Botafogo’s problems/Copa do Brasil obligation seriously though, so, I’m leaving winners and losers aside, and I’m going with goals.
Atletico Goianiense vs Botafogo: Tips
‘Under 1.5’ pays 2.90, and I like it because I think this is a game that will be decided by a single goal, with a 0-0 definitely not ruled out.
