Atletico Goianiense vs Fluminense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 3 December 2017
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
Despite having already gotten relegated, Atletico Goianiense played a good game last weekend at Gremio, and drew 1-1, assisted, obviously, by the fact that the hosts played with reserves, as they were about to face Lanus in the return leg of the Copa Libertadores final. Going into this last game of the season, Atletico’s motive is… purely personal, not collective, in the sense that this is the last game the players have the chance to leave some good impressions, hoping, maybe, for a better contract next season, somewhere else. Interestingly, Atletico haven’t lost in their last four games, they have two wins and as many draws. It’s the first round of the Serie A that… doomed them. They performed very well in the second round, and it wasn’t exactly “too little”, but it was definitely, it proved to be, “too late”.
A rather… appropriate end, to a very disappointing season for Fluminense. Last weekend they lost 2-1 at home to Sport Recife, looking… not indifferent, but definitely not motivated enough to please their fans, to get one last victory in front of their own crowd. They are 14th, not threatened with relegation, but they do need at least one point in this match, so as to secure a Copa Sudamericana spot for next season. If they lose, and both Vitoria and Coritiba win their games, they will be left 16th(!), and will have to spend next season watching 14-15 Serie A teams play international football, in other words, all of them, excluding the newly-promoted, all of them, but themselves. It will be very interesting to see how December will pass, who will leave, who will come, and how better(?) their roster will look in mid January, when the Carioca championship starts.

Atletico haven’t hosted Fluminense since 2012. Back then, they lost 4-1(!). A year earlier, Flu had won 1-0.
Atletico Goianiense vs Fluminense: Prediction
Atletico are considered slight favorites to win the game, but I’m backing Fluminense to get at least a draw.

Flu’s double chance pays 1.48, obviously low. Their win in “draw no bet” is at 1.91 betting odds.
