Atletico Mineiro vs Gremio
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 3 November 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Thirty one game weeks into the season, Atlético Mineiro have spent just four not being in the “G-6”, in the positions leading to next season’s Copa Libertadores. If they don’t beat Gremio, they risk being kicked out of the top-6, for the first time in months. Last weekend, they lost 2-1 at Ceará, their third defeat in their last four matches. Just one point out of 12 possible, has left Atlético 6th, level on points with 7th-placed Santos. With both Gremio and Palmeiras out of the Copa Libertadores, Atlético know they need to finish in the top-6, or see their season go down the drain. A few days ago there was a change at the club, they have a new director, they have started making their plans for 2019, but they need a Copa Libertadores ticket for many reasons, and they have seven “finals” left to secure it.
Gremio are trying to win in a CONMEBOL room, inside four walls, what they failed to win on the field midweek, when they hosted River Plate in the second leg of their Copa Libertadores semifinal. They had won 0-1 in Buenos Aires, they took the lead at home as well, but generally, they showed little interest in playing football. They tried every way possible to waste time, starting with the ball-boys and going to… Marcelo Grohe and Jael, who fell on the ground half a dozen times pretending to need… medical treatment. They got punished by two late River Plate goals, and they’ll watch the Copa Libertadores finals on TV, unless CONMEBOL accepts their request to give them the ticket for the final, because Marcelo Gallardo, River’s coach, violated his ban and A) spent all the game talking to an associate on the bench via phone, and B) entered the dressing room of River at halftime. Bressan, the 25-year-old center-back who gave away a stupid penalty in the dying minutes of the match and “managed” to receive two yellow cards in a matter of minutes, haven’t trained since then, either way he’s out of this match due to cards, and Gremio’s coach, Renato Gaúcho, told reporters he doesn’t intend to play him again this season. Gremio are 5th in the Série A, on 52 points.

Atletico Mineiro vs Gremio: Head to head Stats
Just one win for Atlético, three for Gremio, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Belo Horizonte.
Atletico Mineiro vs Gremio: Prediction
The hosts are considered favorites to win. I agree with that, expecting Gremio to look… disheartened, after their failure midweek to reach the Copa Libertadores final.
Atletico Mineiro vs Gremio: Betting Tips
Atlético’s win, at 2.20, is my main tip. “Over 2.5 goals” is at 2.30, and these two combined promise an awesome 4.00. Yes, Atlético have scored just once in their last four matches, but going against logic, probably, I expect them to… draw a line, and use this game as a “restart” button.
